Kobe Bryant Respects Boston

Kobe Bryant answered a number of questions related tot he Celtics in Steve Bulpett's article today. The following two kind of stuck out to me.

Kobe finds much to talk about with C’s, Lakers - BostonHerald.com

On his lengthy, illustrious career: "It's more than I could have imagined, to be honest. I was very, very fortunate to be part of a storied franchise. There are really two storied franchises in Boston and us in LA, and I was very lucky to be drafted by one of them. You know they're going to make right decisions, right choices, and because of that I've had a successful career."

On his desire to win a sixth championship:"I’m obsessed about it. I’ve got to get it. It’s just one of those things. It’s what I play for. I can think of nothing else. As a kid growing up, that’s all I saw. I watched Bird. I watched Magic (Johnson). I watched them win multiple titles. I watched (Michael) Jordan win multiple titles. . . . After you win one, you become addicted to it. You win two and win three, and you just get greedy. So I want another one."

There might not be a more Kobe Bryant-ish quote than that last one.

Bonus Link: Check out the pics and quotes on this Red's Army post. So odd seeing a young Kobe in a Celtics t-shirt.

and if we compare the Kobe quote to that previous article on Lebron's quote...

…there lies the difference in terms of being one of the greats ;)

By the way… Jeff, do you even sleep at night?!

" I don't come to play, I come to win "- Larry Bird.

P.Pierce , K.Garnett, R.Allen are all in that group, as well as [ as much as I hate saying it ] K.Bryant.

One of these times, I’ll prepare a list of my winners and whiners.

When seeing those pics of him in Celtics attire.

What if the Celtics did or were able to draft Kobe? Haha

I think Kobe is a great player and has a lot of drive and all...

but it’s a team sport, individuals don’t win titles, great teams do. Also, Shaq was the best player in the league and most dominant big man (arguable of all time) in the league for the first three. He was option A, the main option, numero uno: Finals MVP all the three years with averages of (38, 16, 2), (33, 16,4) and (36, 12, 3) respectively and the Lakers had a great team around both of them also, but going by Kobe’s metric, I watched Shaq win those titles and since I’m not a Lakers fan, I did not want him to win more although I love Shaq. Again, the truth is the Lakers had the better team. Kobe is playing great right now and he has two of the better big man in the league, but the Lakers are flawed after that without a good pg, and depth on the bench atm which leads to the record the have.

Individuals who boast about titles in team sports are understandable and credible to a point, but it makes a whole lot more sense when Roger Federer does it/did it. He can say I won 16 grand slam titles all by himself.
