Perkins gives no quarter

(Yes, I know I'm late to posting this, but I've been busy all day)

Man I miss Perk.

Kendrick Perkins rips LeBron for dunk tweet - NBA - Yahoo! Sports

Shortly after the dunk, James tweeted, "Dunk of the Year! @blakegriffin just dunked on Kendrick Perkins so hard!!! Wow! I guess I’m No. 2 now. Move over #6." James was referring to his alley-oop dunk he threw down after jumping over Chicago Bulls guard John Lucas III a day earlier.

"You don’t see Kobe [Bryant] tweeting," Perkins said. "You don’t see Michael Jordan tweeting. If you’re an elite player, plays like that don’t excite you. At the end of the day, the guys who are playing for the right reasons who are trying to win championships are not worrying about one play. "They also are not tweeting about themselves talking about going down to No. 2. I just feel [James] is always looking for attention and he wants the world to like him."

No layups.

Hahah! He's right... ;)

but aah well… it’s the new generation of greats.

Anyway, sorry again for the OT but I just have to share this very hilarious vid of Will Ferrell doing an intro for the visiting bulls earlier: http://youtu.be/jxxnuq7oEk0

+1

Awesome video.

Yeah

How could you not like Perk’s approach to the game?

Wasn't Lebrons self proclaimed "Number 1 dunk!"

Over John Lucas III? Isn’t that the 5 foot 11 guy that has never registered a block in the NBA? Mighty impressive Bron, and you wonder why people hate you.

how many player have done it u cant hate on talent
I bet a lot of players have dunked on John Lucas III
He's dead on and Lebrons a punk and

a disappearing act! But Lebron is right that Blake had the DOY on that play and Perk should probably let his game do the talking for a few weeks himself. The man got taken to the woodshed on that play.

“To be an effective post defender, you have to risk getting dunked on.” – KG

i think media blew up an average dunk

into out of proportions. biggest culprits are the nba.com . they try to elevate blake and lebron at any given opportunity. many of you may disagree with me, i was not impressed with that dunk. plus he didnt posterize perk. there was a lot of space. with all star game coming up people want to make blake look like god at the expense of people like perk.

this is not the way to promote game of basketball. often players are asked about being role models. what are these news sites promoting ? put down one player and put up another ?
I hope C’s called and talked to perk and make him feel better amidst this circus.

It was a regular dunk. But to take ahit from Perk and continue to elevate isnt something anyone can can do. Its harder to go through something than go over it.

now way that was a normal dunk most player wouldnt be able to finish im die hard celtics fan but talent is talent
It was an above average dunk

But they certainly blew it out of proportion. To be fair though a lot of the reactions/tweets weren’t even people from the media it was other celebrities. I have no idea why so many people put “greatest dunk I have ever seen” and things to that effect, it was a good dunk but not one of the greatest of all time.

I know Perk was never a numbers guy but..

He’s averaging 5.5 rebounds which is low for the second best part of his game and 4.6 points at a unusually low 45% shooting. I don’t know why but I really think he was overpaid just for his defense. Don’t get me wrong I would love to have him back but I really don’t think he’s worth the money he’s making

Kendrick criticizing LeBron...

… Over something as trivial as a tweet is almost as silly as LeBron tweeting about himself. Perk is competitive, I’ll give him that, but he also seems to have a perpetual bee in his bonnet. Like LeBron, he should just shut up and play.

To be fair, Perk said this in an interview

… you know, in reply to a question. LeBron tweeted himself into this. Besides, there’s something circular/illogical about telling someone who is saying “Just shut up and play” to shut up and play.

lebron is a great player and for him to say that it shows that he also doesnt belive his a god
A fair point

I’d just reiterate, Perk had a tendency in Boston to complain to refs constantly and we all wondered why he got no calls but did get techs. It way well be circular; I just think he remains a bit immature. That said, can anyone really hold their tongue when it come to LeBore? LOL.

Let's bring Perk back!!
I love Perk but I think he's a crybaby....

You got dunked on big guy. Dudes are talking about it. Get over it and try not to let it happen again! Lol….

But he's not crying about the dunk...

He is simply addressing Lebron constantly proclaiming himself to greatness. We all known Lebron is a great player. But to constantly declare himself #1, the best, the king, simply tarnishes his image to most and is unlike many of the great players we have all grown to love. I think Perkins makes a great point here. And a big +1 regarding players focusing too much on a single play rather than the big picture, winning. I love his attitude.

The only truth from that statement was the last sentence, which is spot on. Everything else? Not so much.

Everything else was correct too

What exactly is incorrect? Regardless of whether you think Perk was right to respond to Lebron or you think Perk is being bitter, he didn’t say anything that was inaccurate or made up.

Lets dissect it then?

“You don’t see Kobe [Bryant] tweeting,” Perkins said. "You don’t see Michael Jordan tweeting. If you’re an elite player, plays like that don’t excite you. At the end of the day, the guys who are playing for the right reasons who are trying to win championships are not worrying about one play. “They also are not tweeting about themselves talking about going down to No. 2. I just feel [James] is always looking for attention and he wants the world to like him.”

Yeah, Kobe and MJ don’t tweet. Dirk tweets and he was excited by that play. Hell, his teammate KD is one of the most prolific tweeters out there, of course, he wasn’t excited about that play that was mostly due to the fact that it was on his teammate. Lebron isn’t fixating on one play as much as he’s recognizing that Blake made an incredible play that was actually better than his own. Yes, he tries to be likable and fails pretty miserably, but how does that affect his status as an elite player?

To pretty blatantly say that Lebron is actually worried about being liked more than winning is sad. He cares too much about being liked, but it’s pretty obvious that it in no way affects his play on court.

I think Perkins had the right to respond to Lebron and it’s clear that he simply doesn’t like him. It’s fun and it adds a bit more drama to a very possible Thunder-Heat matchup in the finals, but he’s still wrong.

I'm not sure if he tweeted about this one Perk, but it was nice also ;)

Michael Jordan didnt tweet

Duhhhh come on perk its a different day and age where players all know each other and are friends from aau Lebron is the best player in the nba by far who cares if he congratulates griffin on having an awesome dunk I think it’s him showing respect and people blow it up as being a punk

Perk Probably Should Have Stayed Quiet

But, I think what Perk was doing was saying to his own teammates that If Perk was embarrassed, which he probably wasn’t, that it doesn’t matter. Perk’s personal feelings don’t matter. What matters is that OKC wins a championship. Now they call it “tweeting”. They used to call it leadership. And that’s what Perk became when he was a Celtic, a leader. Now he’s taking what he’s learned to his new team.

Perkins esteems himself too highly

His charm was that he used to be quiet and work hard. Now he seems to mouth off at every opportunity about petty rubbish.

He sure likes to talk about championships and being an elite player, but what does he know about it? Like BB he was lucky enough to be drafted and nurtured by a great team and organization, but instead of being modest and grateful he takes way too much credit for their success and brags about it to players far better than himself.

I miss Tony Allen on the Cs, but not this guy, no way.
