Rondo Quotes and Healing Updates

Forsberg has some good quotes from Rondo regarding his healing wrist.

Rondo details lack of activity due to wrist

"I try not to get too down, too negative on myself, but I was pretty [bad] last night," he said. "Realistically, I haven’t touched a ball since Toronto because of the wrist. I’m a right-handed player, so I couldn’t shoot free throws. I beat myself up because I missed three free throws and because of the turnovers I made. I wasn’t strong [enough] to make the pass. That was the sacrifice I made to go out there and play."

The good news: Rondo didn't report any additional soreness the day after his return. He did sport a grisly shiner below his right eye -- the lingering remnants after Knicks guard Iman Shumpert caught him with an unintentional hand to the face as Rondo pressured the ball in the New York backcourt in the first quarter on Friday. Rondo made sure to stress that the eye didn't hinder him Friday, noting the turnovers were more the result of the weak wrist than the puffiness around his eye.

He also mentioned that he'll play with the brace on his wrist for another game or two.

my thing is .if the wrist aint healthy enough to shoot free throws(something he;s already pretty bad at)

then dont play him or force him out there,we’ve proven we can go streches of winning without him (dont kno how we’ll shape up in the playoffs) but he should just rest the wrist untill 100 percent healthy let him gain a couple practices then bring him back

My boy...

It shows the type of player he is for him to come out and admit he was bad last night. Personally, I didn’t even think he did that bad considering he was just coming back from an injury like that. He got guys great looks especially Ray Allen. He wasn’t close to the Rondo we all know but he still gave himself to the game last night.

To be honest, I don’t think we would’ve won last night’s game with Avery Bradley alone. If Rondo sat last night out like he did the last few games prior to last night, the Knicks would’ve chew us up and spit us out the way they were playing last night. Hopefully, Rondo get’s healthy and go back to the way he was playing before he got injured

Opinions will vary, but I think we can agree

…on this: While it is possible for teams to win championships without having an elite point guard on the roster (Mavs did it with Kidd, who was very good but not elite) — I do not believe that THIS team can go all the way without one. More specifically, the Cs need an elite DISTRIBUTOR. What we’ve seen from Bradley and Moore in the last few games has been great for their development and for the team… but it will NOT get us to the promised land.

So bottom line: We have no choice right now. Barring some far-out trade by Danny, we MUST have a healthy Rondo playing his best in order to have a shot this season. Trading him away for big(s) is out of the question if we’re looking to do something in this, the last year of the Big Three.

All of which doesn’t mean RR can’t improve his game… I think/hope he will. I hope that Bradley’s defense will help push Rondo in a better direction (less gambling from behind, more staying in front of his man), and I sure hope his free throws continue to improve. As for teams ignoring Rondo at the end… I think we’ve already seen, back when he was healthy, that that strategy won’t work as well as opponents hope, as Rajon had already improved his jumper enough to make them pay, to say nothing of his ability to run a LOT of sets that are otherwise out of the question.

Meanwhile, I love these quotes from the kid. They show a level of maturity, realism and determination that we certainly need from him.

Sounds like BS to me.

I appreciate that he can admit he’s having a bad day, but it just sounds like a convenient excuse. Now he’s saying he hasnt touched a ball since hurting his wrist in TOR, but only like a week ago in another interview, he was talking about how all he could do was dribble. So which is it? Did he not touch a ball, or was he dribbling? I watched the game, and he didnt get those turnovers because his wrist lacked strength. He got them, because of poor decision making. He didnt miss his FTs because of his wrist…he missed, because he isnt a good shooter. Rondo is a great PG, and he doesnt owe anyone any excuses for last game. We won, and he really wasnt that bad. No need for the excuses and story changing.

Just because he COULD dribble doesn’t mean he did it a lot, especially if his wrist was in pain. Or he was just exaggerating about not touching a ball. Neither makes a bit of difference. He’s a bad ft shooter, but not 1-4 bad, and it seemed to me when he was playing he seemed to favor his wrist a bit. You’re right, no need for excuses and Rondo’s known for keeping quiet about injuries/ailments, so maybe this isn’t an excuse?

LOL

“So which is it? Did he not touch a ball, or was he dribbling?”

Yeah, that’s pretty much how critical we are of our players. What was he supposed to say to the person who interviewed him, “I am a great PG, and I don’t owe anyone any excuses for last game. We won, and I really wasn’t that bad.” lol

I'm a Rondo Fan

I don’t think he’s making excuses I think it BOTHERS him when he thinks didn’t play as well as he could or if his team loses. That’s called passion. Great athletes have it, they use it as fuel. He’s got a great attitude for an athlete in my opinion. My basketball career ended after college but I can tell he’s got that toughness.

way too much negativity about rondo here. after missing 8 games and a not fully healed wrist, rondo was darn good and we need him to drive the engine. rondo never will be the smooth chris paul guard, but he is a physical houdini with the ball and has grit to spare- just ask kg.

Way too much negativity all together this season about too many players and the team in general.

At the beginning, everybody was down on K.G. and P.P., and everybody said the team was finished and should be blown up. Rondo at that time was keeping the team in the games.

Once K.G. and P.P. started getting their game legs in shape, P.P. after a camp injury, and the newbies began to jell somewhat, the nit pickers started coming down hard on anyone who was either injured or having a bad game.

Now people are knocking R.R., who just came back after missing 8 games, and it will take a few games to get back into game condition, providing there are no more wrist problems.

I’ve never seen so many whiners and crybabies who have mostly negative things to say about so many people.

It appears to me that a lot of people need to get a life, and to begin getting some enjoyment out of their lives.

We have had greatness in our midst since 2008, which included banner 17 , another trip to the finals, which was lost through injury, and two more potential finals runs that were cut short by injuries.

Let this season play out, whatever happens, and enjoy the ride, for those of you who are able to get some pleasure out of life.

Next season will see some serious rebuilding, and we’ll have the budget for it. Ainge has done well given the constraints he’s had on the purse strings so far, and this team just might surprsie a lot of people come playoff time.

Lygafe.

Lionel Gaffen / Fotomix.
