What Do You LOVE About The Celtics? (Happy Valentine's Day)

Just thought I'd start an open thread about why you love the Celtics.

Also, consider this your public service announcement: If you haven't already gotten your loved ones something for today, drop everything and run out and get it now.

Or if you are single and looking, don't be afraid to ask out that certain "friend" that you've had your eye on with the casual line of "nobody wants to be alone on Valentine's Day" and then show up with a rose. Worked for me (wink).

For more on love, after the break we will revisit our annual tradition of linking to Delonte West's epic romantic journey.

"Yeah, we're going to my yacht. We'll pull up at the docks and got a guy waiting for us, open our door up and we walk down a lit-up dock and onto the yacht, where we have dinner set up on the boat and we just cruise out on the water. Sit down and have some dinner, some shrimps and steaks, keep it nice and breezy. Pop some bottles, some Moet Rose. The red Moet, we ain't popping no Kristal, it tastes like urination. We ain't popping no Kris, that's $500 a bottle. It ain't that serious. It ain't going to get you drunk. Make sure you put that in there. We ain't doing a $500 bottle, we're doing a $99 wine and dine. While we're eating, have a singer. Who should I have?" Can this NBA player get a little love? How about some heart candy and balloons? Greene: "R. Kelly." Delonte: "I can't afford R. Kelly."

Happy Valentine's Day everyone.

Smooth Jeff, smoooooth
a quote from steve z really reminded me why i love the C's...

“the Celtics know what they are doing. Everything they do doesn’t work, but their philosophy for assembling a team and style of play is better than probably all other teams, except for those who do very well at copying them (very few and usually former Celtics are involved). And it does take a little time to assimilate new players into the way they play. No training camp to speak of magnified that issue. They do know how to fix problems and play team bball as well or better than other teams (look at their assists even without Rondo) and their defense.
Looking for the first opportunity to bash Doc and Danny or ownership is not what they deserve. I understand younger fans without experiencing this team in the 50’s through the 80’s should be cut some slack for doubting, but in the long run you’ll sound far more grounded in what the Celtics are about and raise the quality of conversation here if you remind yourself of that.
They may not have enough to win it all this year, but then again with time they just might. But they try to play the game the right way and they tend to get the most out of their talent and when they get it right they win championships.” SteveZ from Edgemont

Love the defense, pride, and heart

Been a KG fan for a long time and coming here for KG was vindication. All the “but he can’t win a ring” bs disappeared after the magical 2007-2008 season. Living in California surrounded by Laker fans, some of who said “there is no way in hell KG PP and Ray can win a championship together” it felt so good to knock them out. Even though the team is on the decline it still has the best defense in the league, and has some of that championship pride left even if it can’t realistically win another one as currently constructed.

Team

We play like a team, win like a team, lose like a team, and live like a team.

Agreed.

Love your mentioning of them “living like a team.” It’s fantastic to hear stories and see photos of the players and their families spending birthdays and holidays together.

It’s those sorts of things that will have fans decrying the Perkins trade twenty years from now, regardless of the on-court value of the trade. I, myself, cried at work when he was traded.

Even the fans feel like family in the Celtics household. It’s nice to be a part of the Celtics.

I love this sweet pass-and-jam.

This is my favorite play of the Big-3 era, and doesn’t involve any of the Big-3.

I watch it at least once per week… over and over again because I can’t get enough.

The foresight not only to blow past Williams with a strong move, but then to out-fake the (self-proclaimed) ‘King’, who thought he was going to get a highlight-reel block… Oh, the sweetness.

Happy Valentine’s Day, all.

All because...

of my dad, 2nd generation fan.

I love that after the Toine and Pitino years in the desert, the old C's style and values were brought back.

KG is as interesting, enigmatic and competitive a personality as was LB as was BR.

There’s a lot of grousing about Danny and some about Doc on this site, but IMO they’re the guys who made it happen.

They were also able to rehabilitate Pierce in that tradition in time to salvage his career and legacy.

What’s more, I’ve got reasonable confidence that they’re going to be able to do it again, with another generation. Already the team’s youngsters are to me the most fun to watch.

Love family.

Like sports.

JO

His great love for fancy pics of every inch of his body. Who doesn’t love a man that has 200 MRI’s a season.

Class

Classy organization, classy history, cool homecourt, Rondo’s passing, Rondo’s developing jump shot, Rondo’s unselfishness, KG’s intensity, Ray Allen class once again, Paul Pierce shooting from the elbow, and The Garden chanting LETS GO CELTICS!! Defense, winning as a team, the fans. If I had to use one word AUTHENTIC.
