I was going to say that Rajon Rondo gave his best Derrick Rose imitation but that's not accurate. He was at his best tonight because he was aggressive and attacking. Looking for his shot as well as his teammates. This is the best of Rajon Rondo. When he plays like that, there's no stopping him. All of which is why I think trading him for anything other than a clear upgrade would be foolish.
I suppose it is nights like this that set the bar for him so high. People know he's capable of this and get frustrated when he doesn't reach these levels. But I'll take a few off nights in exchange for days like today (with a bunch of average but still facilitating nights on other days). But maybe that's just me. Don't trade this guy.

He answered the critics?
Okay, he had an amazing game, I’ll give him that. THIS is the Rajon Rondo we need. THEN WHY DOESN’T HE STAY THIS AGGRESSIVE?!
I’m not going to complain about it. Rondo played well but we need CONSISTENCY. Let’s see if Rondo stays this aggressive in future games. If he doesn’t, this game only improves his trade value.

I can be EASILY pleased, trust me.
Rondo is a great player and I know he will get his good games, but we need consistency. He needs to show consistent aggressiveness like this CHI game. The Celtics do not want the Rondo from the TOR game.
If Rondo plays aggressive every game from here on out, I’ll be happy.
AlexC - February 12, 2012
the celtics dont want anybody from the Toronto game
ianboyextreme - February 12, 2012
What do you expect he’s been hurt half the season? Do you know how hard it is to be consistent when your injured?
Blackberry33 - February 12, 2012 via mobile
He's played like crap even BEFORE the injury
All I want to see is Rajon Rondo being THIS aggressive and I’ll be happy. If I see Rondo sucking out there BUT HE STAYS AGGRESSIVE on the court, I’ll be happy with him PUTTING EFFORT out there.
Rondo needs to show consistent aggressiveness and the critics will be happy.
Until then, good game Rondo, keep it up.
AlexC - February 12, 2012
played like crap with the 2nd most assists in the league?
Best defender at his position?
Are you just expecting a 10ppg guy to score 30 every game?
Whetzell - February 12, 2012
*sighs
It’s as if you guys are having trouble understanding what I’m trying to say.
Yes, I know Rondo has the 2nd most assists in the league but we all know when he plays badly. Why does he play badly? Because he stands around and just waits for people to get open rather than move the rock around or penetrate the defense. Just show aggressiveness and he can have every game be a good game.
We all know when he actually puts EFFORT in games. If we look at the Toronto game, that’s an example of Rondo we have been seeing quite often as of late.
AlexC - February 12, 2012
Yes
Rondo has been inconsistent, no question about it.
In defense of the Toronto game, just wanna point out how ridiculous it is to expect ANY team to play well in their 2nd of a back-to-back when that second game is on the road. It means they get to sleep at MAYBE 5am or so, and are then expected to play full tilt a few hours later…. that’s just madness. No human can do that… certainly not on any regular basis.
But… yeah, inconsistent. I didn’t much like his Lakers game either.
JR99 - February 12, 2012
“ridiculous .. to expect ANY team to play well in their 2nd of a back-to-back when that second game is on the road.” Chicago, Spurs, Heaties, & Thunderations generally arent getting blown out by the Torontos of the League. Pushed, sure but blown out? Granted, the Celtcs O and D takes a lot of energy to play right, but still would like to them do a better job with these “taking-care-of -business” games.
Tenacious D - February 12, 2012
If I'm not mistaken
I think every team in the league has had a stinker or two…. I think it’s inevitable with this ridiculous schedule. (Not that Toronto wasn’t very bad, tho.)
JR99 - February 12, 2012
Toronto almost stole one from LA today.
mmmmm - February 12, 2012
Key word being "almost" though
vinnie - February 12, 2012
i disagree that the Toronto Rondo was the Rondo we see most games (cause most games he has played this season he has been getting about 10 points and 10 assists)
but I agree that when he runs the clock down at the 3 line, the offense does not flow well. Thats just something that he has to figure out and I think he has already started because he did not do that more than twice today.
ianboyextreme - February 12, 2012
The thing is that I see Rondo do this sporadically
There are games where Rondo gets aggressive, moves around, passes the ball, there’s a lot of movement and flow.
Then he just decides to walk up the floor, stare and watch, bring the shot clock down to 5 seconds, then finally passes the damn ball.
It’s like he plays this style for 3 games in a row, then the 4th game he’ll do well, but then he gets back right into this annoying routine. It’s like he doesn’t even realize that if he just moves the ball around, the offense will flow much better.

I wouldn't be too haste to trade Rondo
We’ll keep watching his aggressiveness for the rest of the games before the trade deadline. If he acts stubborn and refuses to be consistent with his aggressiveness, then trade him.
AlexC - February 12, 2012
It was nice to see JJ and CW run with RR. Look what youth does for ya! RR with a triple double and everyone wants to trade him away. He is the most complete guard in the NBA. I guess this means I have to start going to church every day if RR will have games like this!
Blackberry33 - February 12, 2012 via mobile
This is Worth a Look
For Rondo to excel, he really needs guys to get out and run with him. Tonight, circumstances conspired to make it work out. Dont see why Doc doesnt see this and go with it. Get Wlicox, JJ and Bass out there with Rondo more often. Run JO and Ra with Avery. How hard is that?
Tenacious D - February 12, 2012

And how about tre J
florida dodger - February 12, 2012
Thats more like it.
Nice effort by the C’s today.
It would of been sweeter beating the Bulls with Rose playing, but hey we will take the win.
Nice to see Rondo jump back from his previous as he played great today.
He was highly responsible for the win so deserves the game ball indeed.
So glad JJ played alot of minutes today and played well.
It was a win, win for JJ as he helped contribute to the win today and received some very valuable playing time that will only help his growth and development for the future.

Whetzell - February 12, 2012
No, I agree. CJ Watson is one of the top PGs in the league, that's why he's backing up Rose.
Celticsdude - February 12, 2012
Rose is more of a two guard IMO...
well combo but he is a score first player. He is the best in the league with setting a few picks and having him go by the first guy/line of defense and getting to the rim and finishing often getting fouled— this is what makes him so special as the Bulls run that play a lot when he gets in attack mode.
It saved them in the playoffs last year against Indy.

Watson is inconsistent but he's played very well in some games including this one

Celtics_Diva - February 12, 2012
No, not just a couple. Has been and still is inconsistent. One thing that worries me I think he gets bored playing with the Jurassic 4. he needs to run while they live for the 1/2 court.
Tenacious D - February 12, 2012
it's true
He does look bored walking the ball up the floor and getting into the half court set. He loves getting out in transition and Wilcox and JJJ allowed him to push the tempo. If we had Green we’d have seen a lot more of this type of play this year.

I think I should apologize
for blasting Rondo for his performance against the Lakers. Good performance all-around.
My favorite plays were his jump shots. I think he should take them every single time if he’s wide open. He should think about doing that more when we meet the Lakers again.
Great pushing the ball and being aggressive from start to end. When Rondo has his mind set that way, he is a hell of a baller.
Loved the prospect of young bigs running the court with Rondo. Wilcox’s motor is really impressive. If Rondo stays as a Celtic, that is a scene we would get used to seeing.
Granted, it was a win against the rose-less bulls, but a win always feels good :)
greysoul0614 - February 12, 2012
Problems remain
- Energy and effort was pretty spotty from guys not named Rondo or Johnson. Generally mediocre in the first 3 quarters, better in the 4th but still spotty. Bulls won the 50-50 game and rebounding in the first 3 quarters, hustling their butts off on almost every play.
- Rondo had a great game, right? So why did he not ONCE crack a smile, or show any emotion at all? You could see KG and coaches trying to get him to be happy or at least feeling good about the win and his performance…. and still he remained blank. Could he be depressed? Or jaded beyond caring? Either way, it could be a problem. Hopefully not serious or long-lasting, but seems there right now.
- But the Bulls got at least 6 points, by my count, on lucky bounces off broken plays. I.e., they should have had another 3 turnovers which instead turned into points for them, by sheer luck.
- On the other hand, no Rose. Not the same team, though still tough.
JR99 - February 12, 2012
My guess on Rondo
He’s ticked about the recent criticism, and trade talk. It’s so obvious this teams foibles are not at his feet, yet he gets the blame more often than not.
I’d be a little peeved too.
KG's Knee - February 12, 2012
He’s lucky he didn’t throw away this one away for us, too. Two turnovers in crunch time after being unable to get it past half-court. Meh.
kozlodoev - February 12, 2012
that was more because no one came to help
the whole team looked lost until doc called a time out to deal with it. i wouldnt put those 2 on rondo
rm81 - February 12, 2012
"it" being the 2 man press thing
rm81 - February 12, 2012
He had a wide open Pierce on the right on the second “it” (and you’d think he’d see it coming after the first), instead he decided to hold on and throw a terrible jump ball to Garnett.
kozlodoev - February 12, 2012
I just wonder though
Where was anyone else on the team? Shouldn’t it be the entire team’s responsibility to recognize the trap and come to his aid. Set a pick, or provide an outlet pass option. Just standing there and watching Rondo get the ball taken from him is even worse to me.
KG's Knee - February 12, 2012
That's my guess too
Or more accurately, my hope. His affect was strangely unresponsive at the end there. Everybody happy all around him, KG exhorting, telling him how great he was…. and nothing, no response. Strange. Could be something more there…. something that we don’t know about, maybe a personal issue…. That would also explain his recent performances.
JR99 - February 12, 2012
It looks like there is some sort of tension in the locker room. My guess (and this is pure speculation) would be that there is some sort of friction between Rondo and Pierce, though I am not sure where Garnett and Allen stand on the issue. I don’t like it in the least bit, though.
kozlodoev - February 12, 2012
I too think there may be a little friction
I suspect it does involve Rondo as well.
My theory is that Rondo realizes he’s basically been left having to carry this team. He realizes that the best way to do it is to run, run, run. The problem is his mates can’t do it (at least the vets anyway). Yet even though it is obvious that the older players’ inability to keep up is the problem at times, Rondo bears alomst all of the blame (in the media). I’m guessing Rondo resents this, and in turn the BIg 3 recognize this and aren’t happy with Rondo’s resentment.
Doc needs to do a better job, point blank. He needs to tell the big 3 their time as focal points is up, and they need to find a way to compliment Rondo’s game, not the other way around. Doc also needs to do a better job mixing the young players with the old. There should be at least one other player capable of running with Rondo on court at all times. To bad if this ends up hurting some of the vets feelings. They’re suppossed to be professionals, they should get over it.
KG's Knee - February 12, 2012
Sounds reasonable. My problem is
that if this is indeed true, how is this team going to seriously compete this year? They can’t, under these conditions.
So I’m hoping (albeit somewhat against hope) that there’s something personal going on with Rondo; something that will pass. And that the team will come fully together in time for the playoffs. Fingers crossed.
JR99 - February 12, 2012
Magic Johnson just said it best on the post game
The Big 3 need to give up the reigns. This is Rondo’s team.
Find a way to compliment his game.
Rondo’s biggest problem is inconsistency. Maybe that inconsistency is just in his nature. I’m of the opinion it is still to do with his being unsure of how to best compliment his game to the big 3 in order to get the most out of them. He shouldn’t.
Just play your game, Rondo, and force the vets to follow. If they are the professionals they claim to be, they’ll find a way to compliment you.
KG's Knee - February 12, 2012
This. Right Here.
“Doc also needs to do a better job mixing the young players with the old. There should be at least one other player capable of running with Rondo on court at all times. " As obvious as paint on a post. Yet he walks on by. The vet pecking order is so ingrained, but its hurting this club.
Tenacious D - February 12, 2012
I don’t think running is the problem. I think Pierce is just tired of running endless screens for Ray Allen as a first option, and then turning the ball over because we have no second option with 5 seconds left on the clock.
kozlodoev - February 12, 2012
How about Doctor Rivers
Remedies Rondo’s Need to have young legs to run with by putting him on the second unit? We saw what the big three can do with Bradley on the court, why not experiment and swap. Big three get an unselfish, hard-working point who plays top notch defense, and Rondo get’sto run up and down the court with fresh legs.

reb0undwins18 - February 12, 2012
It Sure Helps Rondo when the team actually pushes the pace
Rondo is built for a fast-paced team. When Boston plays mixed lineups and push the tempo he becomes a scoring threat and it carries over into his half-court execution.
When Boston slows it down – like they do every game in the last 5-6 minutes of the 4th quarter – the team’s offensive efficiency plummets and Rondo becomes invisible.
This team is extremely limited offensively. When they don’t run they are a bottom 5 offense in the league and Rondo is a fraction of himself offensively.
When the team runs, it changes the complexion of the game….its that simple…
BillfromBoston - February 12, 2012
Amen!
^ This man gets its.
Rondo needs younger, atheletic players to run with. I’m not saying trade any of the Big 3, but better rotations and offensive sets for Rondo are seriously in order.
Doc needs to do a better job of making sure the C’s don’t go into slow down mode. Tell the Big 3 to run with Rondo or get the heck out of the way.
KG's Knee - February 12, 2012
Which is Why
…DA brought in Jeff Green. Even though it didnt work out as expected, at least DA could read the writing on the wall. Wish Doc could do the same and at least give Rondo a few runners to work with out there, if only to keep him from being bored.
Tenacious D - February 12, 2012
RR can run with Wilcox, and JJ.
Blackberry33 - February 12, 2012

Whetzell - February 12, 2012

Jeff Clark - February 12, 2012
It looks like you are right
But that’s not good news for Boston. Because the guys who run are almost NEVER the Big Three or JO… always the younger guys. We aren’t winning anything with just our bench. So where does that leave the Celtics? With no competitive offense unless the younger guys are in? If true, we’re a dead duck.
JR99 - February 12, 2012
Not necessarly
It would seem that given Rondo some runners would make him better. Ray and Jo steady the bench mob. How hard is that, other than it upsets the vet pecking order and ruffle some egos.
Tenacious D - February 12, 2012
I meant
that this is not a solution that wins playoff series. However, as Doc said post-game, he expects everybody to run, vets too. So it’s probably inaccurate to say that the vets won’t run. They probably will, when the chips are down. (I hope.)
JR99 - February 12, 2012
I think.........
vets like KG, PP, .and Ray try to pace themselves. IF the Cs want to run, switch out rotations over shorter periods of time, so the vets can go all out.
CelticsUKfan - February 12, 2012
Second that
dasandruler - February 13, 2012
That's what he's already been doing with KG all year.
Five minutes in. Five minutes out. Rinse, repeat. And it’s paying off. KG has been playing great.
I think Pierce has started to look a little tired these last 3 games – he has been putting in too many extended minutes.
mmmmm - February 13, 2012
All true. Of course they've got to handle slow in the playoffs too.

Trade Rondo!
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
FOOLS!
KG's Knee - February 12, 2012
Can we assume then issues of his inconsistency are settled? He came out with a chip on the shoulder and injuries pushed W’cox and JjJ up in the line-up. JOs out there, there’s no running game and where’s the result then.
My take. Rondo’s a half-size off with this team. He’s at his best working with runners, at his worst in the half-court. It could work better if he was out there more often with the younger set. But Doc teams him with the guys that do best in the half-court set. This game shows what he can do when he has the horses. But the same old starting 5 will be back, soon as JO is healthy again.
Tenacious D - February 12, 2012
It seems to be a given all of a sudden
that this team can’t play offense in the half court. Not sure when that happened. They’ve ALWAYS been a half-court offense team. If that’s not working, then they need to figure out why. Because it’s gotta work.
It does seem, though, that their PnR’s haven’t been working lately… or at least, much worse than in the past. Lately it seems Rondo is very often just waiting for Ray to break free through multiple screens…. but opponents have long-ago learned about that one.
JR99 - February 12, 2012
Why fools? I would still do the right deal if it came along
Wait until 2 or 3 games down the road when he doesn’t feel like playing that night. His game today was splendid. I just wish he would be more consistent.
vinnie - February 12, 2012
Triple double, double double, great game, good game, average game, What the freak is he doing? We've been kicked out of the playoffs again :(
Celticsdude - February 12, 2012
Rondo can't be consistent.....
….as long as the team’s effort to push the pace is inconsistent – he’s a passer in a strictly half-court game – he’s dynamic when the team plays with a real pace and operates with motion and energy in the halfcourt, feeding off that pace
BillfromBoston - February 12, 2012
then is not really rondo fault
EXER123 - February 12, 2012
Rondo is supposedly our best player...
Shouldn’t he be the one to encourage his teammates to play harder if he finds them slacking?
AlexC - February 12, 2012
Wow... just wow.
It’s not like Kobe can tell Gasol and Bynum to wake the hell up for every single game. He does it, and sometimes it just does not work. Not every player is up for every game. It is just ridulous when I see the kind of criticism Rondo gets on every single night in here.
“Shouldn’t he be the one to encourage his teammates to play harder if he finds them slacking?”
That’s gotta be one of the ridiculous comments I’ve seen on this post. What is he now, Doc Rondo? True, the point guard has to lead the team and encourage the players, and he does that. But are you seriously saying he needs to tell these players to play harder in the first place? Run faster, rebound better, set better picks, on and on?
KG knows that to his heart, same with the captain and RayRay. Whenever our team performs on a shitty level, at least 75% of the people that use this site blame solely on Rondo. It’s just ridulous to me. Like BillfromBoston said, Rondo can’t be consistent when the team’s effort to push the pace is inconsistent. Rondo can’t do what he did today in a half court game. That is not his game. People kind of get that, but never ever understand it fully.
When Rondo sucked vs the Lakers just a few days ago, people forgot to see how crappy KG and the rest of the team played. We played in the half court; thus nobody shot or played particularly well. The whole blame, at least from the people in this site, was on Rondo. It is just mindboggling, then again this site has been like this for the big 3 era.
TheBigFive - February 13, 2012
Been saying
He;s not been given the best shot a doing what he can do. It;s the rotations. Dont know if because “the vets knwo the plays” or its a “pecking order” thing or what. But until Doc changes his lines (JON and Ray off the starting 5, more minutes for the kids with Rondo) expect the inconsistency to continue.
Tenacious D - February 12, 2012
NO MORE BULLS...
Today no Bass, and no JO,
Wilcox, Johnson and Stiemsma were ready to go.
Q1 KG aggressive, Rondo got hot,
Even Wilcox was able to make a shot.
Stiemsma came in, that rookie can block,
Dooling, Johnson, Bradley all working for Doc.
Despite the Bulls’ impressive 10-0 run,
The Cs were up 5 at the end of Q1.
Rondo’s assists, rebounds, shots lit up the place
His Wilcox give ‘n’ go brought a smile to Doc’s face.
Good perimeter shots by Johnson from Purdue,
Beautiful Cs teamwork, up 5 end Q2.
Rondo scored off a block by an energetic KG,
That’s how the Cs started Q3.
Wilcox running the court, impressive shots I am fond o’
Caused by good vision and passes by Rajon Rondo.
Finally a field goal was made by Ray,
During Q3 about halfway.
With all the offense the Cs have found,
Somehow the Bulls are hanging around.
28 points for Rondo, just through Q3,
Against the Lakers and Raptors where was he?
Q4 turnovers both sides, an ugly game,
Bulls hanging around just the same.
RAY ALLEN FOR THREE, then a pretty jump shot,
Cs must be careful no Bulls get hot.
Then the power of the three by the Captain so fierce,
Quietly playing this game, The Truth, Paul Pierce.
Because of spasms in his back, Bulls have no Rose,
Why doesn’t Rip play games even though he goes?
Rondo to Johnson, Rondo to Wilcox, too,
Back to back alley-oops, off steals, WAHOO!
Two minutes left, Cs lead 14 down to 3,
Good screen by KG, good shot by P.
Cs, up 3, lost the ball, 27 seconds in the game,
From behind the whole time the Bulls never came!

The problem with Rondo is consistency
and that he seems either depressed, distracted or just doesn’t care. Didn’t react in any way to the win or his performance. Nada. A blank. Wonder why…..
JR99 - February 12, 2012
His introverted
He is a logical thinking man
He’s the Spock of basketball
I wouldn’t have it any other way
Whetzell - February 12, 2012
Perhaps because he understands this is just one regular season game
What is there to get emotional about? He played fantastic today, and the team won but at the end of the days its just one game.
One of my biggest pet-peeves is when players get all jacked up when the make a good play (LBJ flexing when he dunks, or Joakim with finger guns after he hit a jumper). Like, what are you celebrating? Its one moment in a long season. No need to que up the duck parade.
RJ87 - February 12, 2012 via mobile
His non-responsiveness was at the end of the game
With KG jacking him, telling him how good he was, everybody smiling, happy… and Rondo with stone face.
JR99 - February 12, 2012
And that means.....?
He always has a poker face. I think you’re overthinking it.
But in all honestly, let’s entertain the idea he’s unhappy here. Can you blame him? He gets no respect from his own fanbase. Everytime this teams hits a bump in the road, everyone is ready to offer him up to the wolves. Would you be jacked up playing for a fanbase like that?
Even with that said, I don’t believe that’s what’s at play here.
RJ87 - February 12, 2012 via mobile
If you still have the game on DVR
have a look at Rondo at the end of the game…. after he hit his first 2 FTs, and when the game was over. It’s pretty remarkable how stony he was compared to everyone around him. Interesting.
JR99 - February 12, 2012
He's always been that way, though.
I saw nothing new there tonight.
mmmmm - February 12, 2012
+1 for the 'over thinking it'
It really is kinda futile to try to get into the mind of these athletes based on what you see on TV or from 90 feet away.
Unless one claims to be a mind reader, it is useless speculation.
mmmmm - February 12, 2012
Disagree
Without team spirit, they will not go far. If he’s unable to participate in the end-of-a-win general happiness, and doesn’t communicate with his mates, it’s a bad sign. There’s more to this (and any) sport than just stats, imo.
JR99 - February 12, 2012
I didn't say there isn't more to this sport than stats nor that team spirit isn't important.
What I’m saying is it is completely useless speculation to try to say anything about what is going on inside their heads based on the smidgeons of information that we get as fans.
So, sure ‘intangibles’ are important. But neither you nor I can really say much about how ‘strong’ those intangibles are or not or what kind of inter-personal dynamics are going on.
mmmmm - February 12, 2012

It is speculation

Noah with his six guns blazing
That was hilarious. Seriously, have you ever seen Ray Allen do that? Even one of the best shooters of all time never pulls out his guns—but Noah hits one of his hideous Js and he makes it seem like he’s a an assassin from outside.
McHaleinthepost - February 12, 2012 via iPhone app
Its true
Some games (like this one) he looks like the best player in the NBA but most games he looks like a role player. I’m not asking for a triple double every night but some consistency would be nice.
AussieGreen - February 12, 2012
Slow Down Everyone...
Rondo did play well and got his numbers, contributing to a nice win but they still didn’t cover him. Most NBA players would get 30 pts if not covered. His game today was pretty much what Rondo is. A good player who contributed to a win but he still missed some easy shots, had some turnovers, and didn’t cover is man all that well. All in all, I will take that for the Celtics but that is not an all star level (or better than Rose).
Vermont Green - February 12, 2012
He did get 30+ points... 32
JR99 - February 12, 2012
if the dont cove him and he keeps droping pts let them not guardd him better for us
EXER123 - February 12, 2012
lets assume that no one was guarding him (which was false)
do most nba players get 10 rebounds and 15 assists when not being guarded also?
rm81 - February 12, 2012
we shouldnt even respond to this guy he’s obviously ill informed about basketball and life in general.
Whetzell - February 12, 2012
Argh, you make us Rondo critics look like idiots...
Rondo played REALLY well. It’s fine that he missed some easy shots, had some turnovers. Dude, seriously, NO ONE is perfect…
What Rondo needs to do is BE AGGRESSIVE for EVERY game. He showed aggressiveness this game and he played extremely well. His aggressiveness also raised the Celtics’ spirit and they all played much better than the TOR game.
Be careful with what you say because you are making yourself sound like those critics that don’t know what the hell they are talking about, which makes us legitimate Rondo critics look like complaining brats.
AlexC - February 12, 2012
Rondo has culpability in his effort level - no free passes
But, its extremely hard to play night in and night out knowing that you’re fighting an uphill battle to get your teammates to push tempo.
The best this team has played has been when multiple starters have been out and the team has mixed “old” with “young”.
Rondo in or out, the team has played its best when their are “energy” guys on the court with the “execution” old farts.
BillfromBoston - February 12, 2012

That pattern seems to be there.
JR99 - February 12, 2012
The pattern has been strong enough that Doc really ought to have the flexibility to react to it.

Jermaine Who?
Jermaine, the guy who needs to be coming off the bench. Wilcox can run and fits better with the Rondo and the starters, O’neal would be better with the 2nd unit.

EXER123 - February 12, 2012
That's a good point
Maybe in the playoffs JO should be a starter again, depending on matchups. But until then Wilcox’ energy and willingness to run will make life much easier for Rondo (and for the rest of the team).

Initially I thought you meant Wilcox, but I can see in a comment below that you like him as a starter, too.
While I agree that JO does very little for Rondo (and vice versa) on offense, we might need him for defensive matchups. I do hope that Wilcox will improve on that end too while getting minutes with the starters.

A very hard game to watch with all the turnovers taking place, but have to give Rondo credit.
This is what he is really capable of, when his mind and body are both in the same place at the same time.
Hopefully the new streak of five + wins will have started with this game.
The youngsters have to be given playing time, as they’re going to be needed come playoff time. They do have talent, it’s obvious, and they need to be allowed to make the mistakes that come with growing pains.

He had a Nice block today. Other than that he got killed by Boozer. The guy is an NBDL caliber player.
vinnie - February 12, 2012
It's a start
Great bounce back game for Rondo. He was confident, aggressive and made clutch free throws even! It was reminiscent of earlier in the season where Rondo was getting to the foul line frequently. Can’t expect a triple double every game but if he could just play with the type of energy and aggressiveness he showed today that would be more than enough.
Good thing Rondo had a great game since Paul and Ray were both surprisingly mediocre offensively today. Great effort by Wilcox with some nice baskets and 9 big rebounds.
Good win to hopefully get the Celtics back on track. Can’t forget that the Bulls were missing the MVP with Rose being out which obviously makes them a totally different team.
Let’s hope Doc blasting the team and then the team meeting will right the ship for more than one game…

Everyone knows Rondo can play
But nobody seems to remember how championship teams play him in a 7-game series. He’s a great PG but not Top 5. Rose didn’t play and that’s huge. He’s the reigning MVP. Doc’s system is not a run and gun system. They’ll run when they can, but it won’t happen all the time, not even with young players. In the playoffs, the pace slows down, that’s a reality? You won’t run every time and Rondo’s weaknesses will overshadow his strengths once again, not against the Knicks, not against the Bucks or the Hawks, but against the Heat, the REAL Bulls, etc.
If you want to go ahead and call us bad fans, go ahead and do it, see if I care. I jus happen to have a different perspective on Rondo’s game.
Celticsdude - February 12, 2012
I would not call you bad fans at all.
We all care about our team and want them to succeed. And we don’t always see the same path to that success.

I hope we have seen the last of Jermaine...
Any of our other bigs are better, they can run and are active. Great game by Rondo on offence, but played very little defence. Nice to see him make free throws.
forever_green - February 12, 2012 via mobile
Doubt seriously that we've seen the last of Jermaine.
And the truth is we need him.
I like Wilcox a lot and I hope to see him contribute more and more as he gets more ‘integrated’ with how Doc wants him to play post defense.
But against some match ups, we are going to need JO’s strength and skill at defending the post.
mmmmm - February 12, 2012
JO is short on offense but great most games on D and taking offensive fouls.
Blackberry33 - February 12, 2012
Yes...
I though the perfect example of his good defense was against Bynum the other night.
He played Bynum as well in the paint as you can and actually blocked his shot a couple of times I think.
That type of in the paint defense by JO will come in handy, especially come playoff time when the game becomes more of a 1/2 court in the paint power game.
fordescort - February 12, 2012
Right he has a place.
Vs the Bynams and Howards. But against the rest of the league, giving Wlicox the start and burn time for JjJ would give RR the runners he needs. Also wouldnt mind seeing MP getting the start over Ray-Ray.
Tenacious D - February 12, 2012
In what universe is Michael Pietrus playing better than Ray Allen?
Allen is out-producing MP in almost every category of the game. He’s shooting way better, he’s creating far more points per minute through points scored and assists and in the few categories where he trails MP (rebounds and steals) it is by the barest of differences.
When you look at aggregate stats like win-shares, or net +/- it is not even remotely close. Ray is generating .161 win shares per 48 minutes, MP just .103. Ray’s net differential between his ORtg & DRtg is +11 points per 100 possessions. MPs is just +2.
I like MP, he’s a good player. But no way can I understand the idea of starting him over Ray Allen.
mmmmm - February 12, 2012
Not better. Situational
Use Ray like late-career Reggie Miller, as part of the (reletively) young legs for our special show called Running with Rajon!

fordescort - February 12, 2012
To me JO is no longer a starter, he’s a situational player, like you mentioned against Bynum. I like Wilcox or the young guys getting playing time much better. I wish Doc had the guts to sit JO, but he loves vets.

Rondo has always been a great PG for Boston.
The problem is consistency. Oftentimes I think those slumps he goes through are more mental than anything else.
LarryBird33 - February 12, 2012
Good Post Jeff
Very good words , it is hard to replace rondo or big 3. I agree Rondo sets the bar very high. anyone who watched 2010 playoffs would know what rondo is capable of him. thats why i dont short him ever. he is an MVP but for his injuries and poor games. Once I heard that he confessed to doc he is playing a crappy game against toronto, I felt better. he is atleast not out of his mind. i can totally understand people go through that.
tough losses like against raptors and lakers are when you really have to stay with your team. they came from initial season slump and won 9 out of 10 or something. that itself shows what this team is capable of.
i think rondo should make JJ his alley oop partner. he almost made shaq one but for his injuries.
Celtics Fan From NJ - February 12, 2012
just a thought........
but can you imagine Rondo with the USA basketball team? He’s running the court with guys like LeBron, Blake Griffin, and Durant or DH12. The pace would be incredible.
CelticsUKfan - February 12, 2012
Yep Colangelo blew that one
Blackberry33 - February 12, 2012
This is my hope
That Danny Ainge can some how put Rondo on the floor with just one or two guys with their kind of speed and athleticism. We would see the Rondo we saw today a whole lot more often if he played more minutes with guys who can actually get out in front of him to open seems he can exploit. He’s never had a a guy who can consistently get out in front of him as the Celtics starting PG.
Wilcox and JJJ gave a taste of what Rondo can be if he can consistently get out into the open court.

my question is.......
Who do Celtics fans turn on next? KG? He only had 13-12. PP? The captain only scored 9. JO? He didn’t play. Mark my words, it will happen.
CelticsUKfan - February 12, 2012
I think I've got it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We cut Dooling and Bradley and offer contracts to Iverson and Penny Hardaway. We trade Wilcox and Bass for Korver and a fat kid from NJ. We send KG to the Lakers for future considerations and Jack Nicholson’s autograph. And Pierce gets amnestied to save $$$. This GUARANTEES that DH12 comes here!!!!!!!!! Cmon now, ya’ll know I’m onto something here.
CelticsUKfan - February 12, 2012
rondo has always had the talent, but his game revolves around speed and his passing because of his smarts and big hands— say what you might but the toronto game was pure head case- he was throwing soft passes, no d, and walking the ball up- something was going on and there is more to the story.
nazzbo - February 12, 2012
i think the big 3 gave him an earful after he disappeared in the 4th qtr of the laker game...
Then Rondo pouted his way through the raptors game. Then in this game he decided that he would show doc and the big 3, he was aggressive from tip-off to game over…
greensince72 - February 12, 2012
Great game by Rondo of course, but nice adjustment at the end...

Great effort from Rondo. Wilcox and Johnson really ran well, credit to them. I think this is a pretty good win, and I know they didn’t have Rose, but we also didn’t have one starter or our sixth man which depletes us significantly too.

All the team needs is a little nudge every now and then. Its funny that reading that Chicago blog even they know that a lot of “fans” have been “blowing up” on this team. But whats new the critics have always bet against this team. The only difference this time is that the fairweather guys are taking off the masks and showing thier true color which is fine with me. Im going all in with this team. I bet you we can get out of the East and beat whoever in the west. Rondo once again proved that all our player have that extra gear that we can still turn off and on. Weve seen it before im just suprised not everyone believes in a team they are so invested in.
The green mamba - February 12, 2012 via mobile
Is letting the Fakir game slip away, blowing a 10 point lead to Cleveland or getting blown out by Toronto (Toronto? the Raptors?) a nudge then? How many nudges are needed? And how long will the glow of this win last? Great win, but Im not sure its “all better”

you never know if it is all better.....and that in itself....just means you either wanna blow it up after every loss or two losses or....
you just ride it…..see where it takes you….they’ll be plenty of time after this year, with more cap room to make all kind of moves,……….seldom does it very pay to simply get off your horse in the middle of crossing a river and try to get on another one that may not be any faster, better or stronger than the one you just turned loose in the “river of chance”.…Peace

Do do you really expect us to win all 82 games every year? There will be games that we will lose some worse than others. But does that mean we are a bad team? No, that just means nobodys perfect. Even the bulls only won 72 games and still lost 10 games during that unbelievable run the had. Im just saying if this is your team you stand behind them come hell or high water. The othe blogs are kinda noticing that a lot of our fans kinda flip flop a lot I think thats kinda more worrisome than the C’s performances.

Dont think anything was said either about winning 82 or blowing it high. Win was great, loved Running with Rondo. Would like to see further episodes. Sorry to rain on your parade.
Tenacious D - February 12, 2012
Im asking so if the Cs winning games doesnt seem to satisfy you, what does? Your asking me how many nudges? I answered that even the best teams lose. When a team keeps winning they get over confident and need a nudge at times a loss or losses does the trick. Like ive said in my previous posts its Garder to defend the celtics against its own fans.
The green mamba - February 13, 2012 via mobile
Oh yeah. What do you think it will take to make it “all better”?
The green mamba - February 13, 2012 via mobile
What would make it better? More episodes of Running With Rondo, less of Where’s Rondo. JO used of the bench for situations. More jJJ. In short, Doc breaking his patterns/old school tendencies. All that with no trades. As for nudges, this club seems to need them more frequently than is entirely good.
Again, its bad form to carp after a genuinely satisfying win. And its predictable guys in such situations and call out critics ("you said Rajon was a bum mwhahaha). Cheers

Nice win
It was the energy that won it and Rondo was phenomenal. Doc needs to find time for Johnson. Wilcox had a nice game and continues to fulfill the promise of inconsistency, good one game, bad the next. I thought Johnson was the biggest story of the day. Doc needs to find him playing time.

Celtics don't need to trade any of the Big 3 or Rondo
They do need to find a way to play differently though.
They just look so good when Rondo has players to run with. I do not like the JO/KG/PP/RA/RR lineup for long stretches. These guys just are complete polar opposites to the style of play that best suits Rondo.
I’m not saying take KG/PP/RA out of the starting lineup, but JO may need to be replaced. Also, it seems imperitive to get Trey J and Wilcox more time with Rondo as well. Doc needs to use better rotations.
As far as the 4th quarter troubles, I think Pierce needs the ball a little more in the half-court set, but as a distributer, not as an ISO player. More ball-movement is necessary.

agree with KG's Knee....but Wilcox needs consistency and Trey J needs more polish...and that comes with PT
Trey J was “over-running” rebounds it seemed to me. He was chasing the ball instead of boxing out and therefore overran the ball that consistently went over his head….and into his opponents hands.

still want to trade Rondo?
And good to see JJJ getting some burn and giving some great contirbutions. Good win.

Rondo sucks
he has to go. I am sorry he’s killing this team. Get rid of him.
OMG Rondo had a triple double! The energy was great tonight! We need this! I love how he was rebounding the ball!

A surprise attack...
Grats to the Celtics today!
Now when Derrick Rose comes back, I wonder if Rondo will still be the same again…but he did amaze me today with a triple-double.

I just hope
when & if we trade Rondo, I hope he ends going to a better team by getting traded again. A winning team where he’s appreciated. He will be criticized, but nowhere near this level. Perhaps the Lakers, Heat, Mavericks, even the Blazers where I think he can thrive. I think he can really thrive in those teams.
And I also hope the Celtics find a point guard that can supposedly shoot better, pass better, and turn it over less.
I can’t wait until what people has to say then.
Nonetheless, always good to get a W, not that it means much coming from Roseless Bulls.
