March 1st Could Be Open Season On Trades

Interesting bit of scheduling information here.

NBA -- Dwight Howard and more trade chatter - ESPN

As noted at the top of this Weekend Dime, one of the factors that has contributed to the limited in-season trade activity so far is the delayed trade eligibility of more than 100 players. In a normal NBA season, free agents who ink contracts in the offseason can't be traded for three months from the date they signed or Dec. 15, whichever falls later. The rule, though, had to be amended because of the lockout, which pushed free agency back to Dec. 9 for the 2011-12 season. Free agents who signed contracts for this lockout-shortened campaign thus can't be traded for two months from the signing date or March 1, whichever falls later. In 20 days, then, every team in the league will have more contracts to plug into deals to satisfy salary-cap requirements, which could serve as a useful impetus to help trigger activity before the March 15 trading deadline. Said one Eastern Conference executive: "Teams are eager for March 1."

Here's the list of players that the Celtics cannot trade until March 1st.

Pietrus has fit in very well and most of the other names on there aren't going to bring back much anyway. But perhaps Wilcox could be sent out to a team looking to save some cash (as long as they are willing to send back a big man of some sort).

Let's trade them all for Jeremy Lin...

..The Knicks and Lin won again tonight. Their fifth straight !

NO TO LIN

he will be too high priced to trade for. hes overrated and over valued right now so its not worth trading for him
if we werrrre going to trade with the knicks we should send rondo allen and oneal for lin and chandler

ok so the salaries dont really match up (14 to 26) but you get the idea
chandler would be the knick i would want and lin would be the replacement for rondo

Keep dreaming...
Lin?

Clearly you’re not a serious person.

The Knicks can keep Lin until he’s 30 I’m good!

ARE YOU KIDDING?

NO WAY!!! NOT WHEN YOU HAVE OPPORTUNITY TO GET A “BONIFIDE” CENTER LIKE HOWARD OR GRIFFIN!!

Lin will bust

A guy that has a few good games comin outta nowhere isn’t gonna be sustained long. More oversensationalism by the media. Once teams lock in on him, he’s done. Give it a month

He's got some talent, but...

Watching tonight’s game NYK vs MNW Rubio and the Wolves played great defense on Lin though they lost because of foolish whistle. I think once Lin faces the better defensive teams such as the Bulls, Heat, Celtics, Sixers, Pacers, Spurs, and Mavs we’ll see wut he’s made of.

Right now I’m not buying the Lin sensation, but it’s good to see him living his dream.

Obviously, you haven't watched Lin play the past 5 games

That Minn game was the 2nd of a back-to-back, and they had to travel half-the-country to get there, meaning they got virtually NO sleep… a classic killer game. And Lin’s been playing huge minutes, and was hammered in the Lakers game (because that’s the way LA decided to stop him)… in which he performed brilliantly, btw. A LOT better than Rondo… and it’s not even close. The fact that the Knicks ALSO won in Minn is a testament to how good they’re becoming.

It’s true that there is NO WAY a deal can be made for Lin now, and not just for basketball reasons, but more because his value to the marketing department is now beyond measure.

However, I would take him in a second for Rondo… in that alternate universe where such a trade would be possible.

Whatever JR99 you’re always on here knocking members. People are entitled to their opinion. If people feel Lin is a bust, then he’s bust.
Me personally I think he’s good, but he ain’t better Rondo as far as a allround PG. As far as the Knicks they are playing better, but they’ve played Nets, Jazz, Lakers and Wolves. Those are bottom teams, not defensive teams like the Bulls, Heat, Sixers, Celts, Spurs, Clippers, Thunder, Mavs, Magic or Pacers.
Let’s see how Lin and Knicks match up against those teams.

Chandler is their gem.
These Jeremy Lin people need to calm down

He’s had four good games. He’s played well for about seven days. His confidence is sky high. That happens all the time.

Sorry... in fact, it's never happened before

… like this. That’s why it’s such a good story.

You're both right--

it’s a good story and he will settle down.

(Hint: no way he takes 3x the shots of anyone else once Carmelo and Stat return.)

rondo sure couldnt stop him!

What did Rondo do to upset you? lol

bricking his free throws and wide open jumpers...lol
I really dont know other than he sucks

Ive been a Celitc fan for 40 years and never felt this way about any other player. I bleed Celtic green and hope he can turn it around, but I would trade him in a heartbeat for Nash or Gortat!

man,

you’ve been a Celtics fan for 40 years, and Rondo is the first player you ever thought sucked? not even Marc Blount?

he doesnt suck he just doesnt fit in with the rest of the team
I wonder what kinda move DA is gonna make before the deadline...

…‘cos I still seriously think that we have a slim chance of making even the Eastern finals if we get a decent, big rebounder. I watched the PHI-LAC game yesterday and I saw the Clips’ Reggie Evans’ game.. we need someone exactly like that! If there was a teeny bit chance we could get that guy… oh boy.

This is a bridge year

Adjust your expectation and enjoy the season

+1

That’s the style, lo!

hey danny boy

please give us a viable center who can score and rebound cause j oneil is finished

If Rondo can pull his head out of his butt and Danny could get a decent Center, then the C’s might be okay.

i dont think rondo is in a slump

i think he is a square piece trying to fit into a round hole
having a point guard that cant shoot is fine when youre a fast paced team that scores easy buckets and rarely lets the defense set up but we arent so we need to change the team philosophy or change rondo IMO

I do believe Doc's plan was to revamp the offense for Rondo and Green's strengths this year--

then with the shortened preseason and all the old guys still starting anyway, he canned it for now.

I don't believe we are going to trade

any of these guys, but rather release them and sign other available free agents.

too many factors involved to go beyond raw speculation

Ainge always has the option of doing nothing and having PP, Rondo and a couple of bench guys under contract for next year. The issue here is what superstar or what future trade asset is available to him next year in FA.

I suggest from observing Danny over the years that he will take his best chance at Howard. I don’t think the C’s have the assets for Howard now, obviously, but, Aimge ,might be able to create them.

The prevailing thought is the Lakers, but they may need to “create” assets also.

Rondo might be able to get an asset in return. PP might also. The potential return on either of these two players “might” be inflated by the situation with the trading partner. McHale HAD to get SOMETHING for KG, and Danny packaged it. Was McHale under pressure? He certainly was. Anybody out there in NBA land under pressure? We shall see.

Here is another factor. If the Knicks stay hot and the C’s stay cold playoff scenario could worsen to point where Ainge faces another factor…draft position.

If you want the C’s to have a future you need to play all the options out as that is what your GM is doing.

Danny does not feel he can build a team around Rondo. He does not care if you like Rondo he is in charge of a business worth 100’s of millions of dollars. Rondo can’t hit foul shots and is an ineffective outside shooter. He makes up for it in a dozen ways and is top 6 in the league for his effort.

Ainge traded Perk for Green who is a trade asset. He feels he got the value he needed for Perk and promptly packaged Green with Rondo for CP. Worth a shot right? You see Paul play yet? He is a superb shooter.

Big stars help attract big stars. Ainge will make every effort possible to get one big star who will help leverage with other “almost big stars.”

This is what he did a few years ago…right?
