KG and The Church of Celtic Pride

Looking for the right pass (as usual).

It is nice to know that fans outside of Boston see more than just the snarl and the swagger from Kevin Garnett. They know and respect the man for being larger than life because he never makes himself larger than the team.

Garnett makes you believe that the cliches are real. Trust me, when you do this enough, you can tell from inflection who means it and who's going through the motions. And some go through the motions with the press but believe it privately. But KG is one of the few in the league who talks the talk of the walk he walks. In a sport where so many players are steadfast in their struggle to be self-aware, to understand how much greater they can be if they let go of ego, who are always considering themselves and their image and brand first, Garnett is a rarity. He was made to do this. He was made for Boston.

He was made to be a Celtic.

Love it.

Amen!...

Awesome!…I hope he retires as a Celtic…love his attitude!…

That was a great read.

I, too, hope he retires a Celtic, and that he has enough left in the tank to take the Cs to the promised land one more time this season.

KG

I take umbrage (Tommy would be proud of me) where the author says that KG “dumped” the T’Wolves. He didn’t do that at all. The T’Wolves wanted to “dump” KG and his salary. KG didn’t want to come here at first. I don’t remember reading anything about him saying where he wanted to go. I read that he was unhappy with the T’Wolves because he felt they weren’t trying to improve the team and I don’t remember anything written about management trying to explain to him how difficult that was.

Compare that to Paul Pierce’s situation. He wanted the same as KG, a competitive team that had a chance at a championship. Pierce remained patient because Danny spoke with him and explained that it wasn’t easy, but he, at least, was trying.

I didn’t like KG much when he tangled with Perk, but I sure do love him now. KG was always a Celtic at heart. He probably didn’t know it and neither did we. Now we know it. That’s why I don’t like the media writing him (and Ray) off for next year. If the Celtics need to rebuild it will need to be with players with the right attitude and there’s no one better than KG (and Ray and Paul) to provide that leadership.

I haven't looked but I swear he didn't even play in that first game back in Minny against them

is my memory that bad that im making things up now? I really thought he blew off the 1st game against them. Maybe it was here. In any case if Im right then the author made the whole thing up about him thumping his chest and so forth

He was unable to play in that game, it was injury or sickness

He appreciated the fans in Minnesota and vice versa, also do you think that a player could blow off a game just because he wanted to? He got a huge ovation the next time he actually played there.

look to the rafters...
i dont think we would be succesful as a laker

what i mean is celtics have a different understanding between each other and fan expect an amount of professionalism for ex. bynum did to berea laker fan were proud and when kg this what he did to walker fans want him to get a punishment because it was right thing to due plus with kobe drama he would probably be their for 1 yr tops then he wont of ask to be traded

Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo are my type of Celtics.

K.G. made the entire team better, and R.Allen and P.Pierce came on board with his idea of defense first.

All three will have their numbers retired when they finally do leave the game. Once Pierce didn’t have to carry the team on his back night in, night out, as he had to before being joined by Allen and Garnett, he made the adjustment to team rather than individual. [ His individual stats have gone down, but he became a much better player as a team player ]

Both Ray Allen and Garnett had to carry relatively mediocre teams for years pretty much on their own, and Allen, as well, became a much better defensive player thanks to Garnett.

It’s now on Rondo to show that he’s in their league [ meaning great on a consistent basis over a number of years ] and then he’ll truly be the next one to have his sweater hanging in the rafters.

Without two freak injuries, in 2009 and 2010, banners 18 and 19 would already be hanging, I guarantee it.
The 2010 injury to Perk and the subsequent year of prolongued injuries to the entire roster, led to an early ouster in 2011.

Our ’ Big Three ’ are classic Celtics lunchbox working stiffs, [ albeit multimillionaire working stiffs ] and they deserve our support in this very difficult season, as it may be the last season we’ll have all three together [ health, retirement, who knows ? ].

Lygafe.

Lionel Gaffen / Fotomix.
