Rebounds? No! Offense Ball Movement? No! Good Shooting? No, No No! Good Referee's? No! Streak Over? Yes!
It was ugly. It was painful. But it happens. Let's move on.
The Celtics and Pacers came out running from the opening bell and seemed to have a fairly steady PACE of pushing the ball up the court but certainly not scoring! Just Wow.......horrible. The first half shooting performance was like watching two guns, both loaded with blanks, shooting aimlessly at nothing. The Celtics, in the end, were not able to push their win streak to 5, and thus not taking full advantage of their home court stand this past week.
The 1st quarter ended up in a very low 14-14 tie, with the Pacers missing their last 14 shots of the 1st Quarter. The Celtics were not much better. The second quarter was more of the same - only worse!. It was a bricklaying contest interspersed with fouls, turnovers and the feel of a bad YMCA pick-up game. The Pacers went on a late 8-0 run to close out the second quarter to be up by 8 points at the half. The Celtics scored only 11 points in the second quarter to finish with ONLY 25 POINTS? A season low and a tie for a Franchise low.
First Half Highlights: NONE, ZERO, NADA, NOTHING!!!
Second Half and Overall Highlights and Lowlights:
- Rondo stayed aggressive but to no avail. He was sloppy at times but stayed aggressive.
- Ray was back in the lineup and steady - but not enough tonight.
- Steimsma didn't choke "Weekend at Bernie's" Referee after three terrible calls in the 3rd Quarter. (Great block by the way by Steamer). I should complain about the referees.....but I won't.
- Jermaine not seriously injured and hopefully not a nagging rib injury.
- Pierce 3-16 shooting - just an off off off night....he was overdue. It happens, but it was painful.
-Ancient Jeff Foster continues his rebounding prowess against the Celtics - I have always disliked him but he does his job.
My advice for the next 4 days:
Rebound Drills! (per Tommy)
Rest and watch film (when not in rebounding drills)
Try to forget this game.....it was ugly, painful and hopefully not repeatable.
.....Enjoy the weekend Celtic fans...Peace from Po

PACEMAKERS
The Pacers are a young and athletic team,
The Cs will need their bench, so it would seem.
Tommy praised " Killer Bees," Bradley and Bass,
Who cares if David West on the Cs took a pass?
Ray feels better, let’s see what he can do,
He had six threes the first night of his flu.
Q1 Bass had a block, JO had three,
14-14 end Q1, terrible shooting we did see.
This fact is interesting, not just a filler,
Pacer longer than Foster? Only Reggie Miller.
Q2 started out scary, the Pacers got hot,
Feel terrible that Marquis can’t make a shot!
RAY ALLEN FOR THREE, at last in Q2,
JO, used to be a Pacer, showed what he could do.
The visiting team can choose the end where they start,
Cs were at the "wrong" end, is that why they fell apart?
RAY ALLEN FOR THREE, FOR THREE, JO’s second charge,
Rondo coast to coast, the Cs playing large!
Stiemsma with the block, he got all ball,
But, of course, a foul the ref did call.
Rondo to KG for an alley-oop,
Still too few rebounds for the Boston group.
Ineffective ball movement, setting up plays late,
Make the Cs at the end of Q3 down eight.
Early Q4, RAY ALLEN FOR THREE,
Then a George Hill/Pacers run stopped briefly by KG.
The lead got down to seven, but for the Cs no break,
Some ridiculous calls the refs did make.
No matter how old or how much talent a team’s got,
Some nights even great players can’t make a shot!

Let's give credit to the Pacers...
…it wasn’t the Celtics fault completely. Indiana stuck to the Celtics like glue the majority of the game. When Allen did find daylight, he was still lights out. The Pacers just played good D and were determine to makeup for their stinker against the Heat. Also I think Steiumsma should be ahead of Wilcox in the rotation at this point.
yakyakyak - January 6, 2012
+1
I also think and agree Steimsma should be ahead of Wilcox in the rotation.
fordescort - January 6, 2012
I agree--even if it's putting a D-league guy over their mini-midlevel signing.
I want to see Stiemer get a steady 7+ minutes per half until he plays himself out of that role.
Didn’t see the game, but from peeking on my Blackberry it looked like the starters were off offensively, to be replaced with a hockey-game substitution of the second string (and KG). But at this point the second unit just doesn’t have the offensive punch for that.
clover - January 7, 2012
would like to forget it
but there’s no game for 4 days to wipe away the memory of this atrocity

so you are saying I should erase the DVR before watching it?
ugh, not good news
Jeff Clark - January 6, 2012
I am saying you should erase it and then check to make sure it is gone.
Master Po - January 6, 2012
Unless you have masochistic tendencies, of course.:)
lygafe - January 6, 2012
Will erase
I had to fly out of country last night and taped the game. Will have it erased on this report. I also agree re Jeff Foster. Just a pain who is always tipping the ball etc. I never liked Brad ???? either. Same type of annoyingly productive opponent with seemingly no skill.
Wildblu1 - January 7, 2012
Yucky game......
C’s should of won this matchup tonight against this young less talented Pacer team.
But even a more talented team if it has trouble scoring, defending and rebounding will lose to a less talented team.
Only Ray and J.O. to a degree played well and its tough to win games with such little manpower assistance.
I Thought the C’s had a chance to maybe make it a game a few times in the 4th , but the Pacers to there credit always kept the C’s at bay by making some big plays on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court along with help of a couple questionable calls by the refs.
Though it could of been just a off night I think the C’s also seemed to lack energy, focus and motivation tonight which is bound to happen at times to a older , veteran club during the course of a long season.
Its just once game though, so as PO says hopefully the C’s and all of us can just put this game behind us and move on.
fordescort - January 6, 2012
No surprise here
I predicted them to lose both games to the Pacers and be 5-7 though he first 12.. This team simply cannot compete with the good, young, up an coming teams. They still have not beaten anyone with a pulse. I did not see the game, but just looking at the score, I am concerned they won’t even reach my 38-win prediction.
vinnie - January 6, 2012
Why are you so negative?
Blackberry33 - January 7, 2012 via mobile
This is negative?
I predicted them to be 5-7 after 12 games based on the schedule and based on the team I see. I hop they do better, much better, but I just don’t think. They can play with young, talented teams anymore. Have they beaten anyone with a pulse yet?
vinnie - January 7, 2012
either way
being negative is anyone’s right – part of being a fan is being able to vent (in a respectful way of course)
Jeff Clark - January 7, 2012
Don’t bother he still does’nt get it. That’s his only theme here. And he does’nt vent he bashes.

Thinking future...
This team is flat. It continues to flatline on offense. Except Ray, there are no immediate scoring options. We continue to walk the ball up the court, shave significant minutes of the shot clock, which in return forces us to put up quick and bad shots. Passing the ball this many times around hoping to find a player who can score or create something is a clear indication of this team’s weak offensive capabilities. Halftime comes, and we only manage to score 25 points? There is absolutely no way we can win this way!!!
I continue to read articles that say something along the lines of this team will get better, there is still time; but I am not buying into it. As long as we have this core of players around, nothing is going to change. Therefore, time to think future. It is time to move players. It would be pretty silly (for a lack of better words) to try and make it to the playoffs – probably as a low-seed team – because we only are going to get knocked out by Heat or Chicago and loose out on high draft picks! Mr. Ainge start thinking future, please!
Danyck - January 6, 2012 via mobile
1st loss of 5 in a row
If we’re gonna be this bad, I want to see the rookies play. Heck, they couldn’t do any worse than the fiasco tonite!
In a couple of weeks we’ll be 4-8. You can drink all the green Kool Aid you want, this team is going nowhere!
OhioGreen - January 6, 2012
5 in a row?
So u gon sit here nd predict we lose 5 in a row? man we’re gonna get it together take ya ridiculous negativity nd root for the Heat bruh adjustments will be made quote me on dat
throwedoff - January 7, 2012
Pathetic
Don’t think I’ve ever seen a more pathetic offense (and rebounding) effort from the Celtics… EVER. Amazingly bad, really… ’cept Ray, The Ageless Wonder Of The NBA, of course.
Look up “ugly” in the dictionary later this year… they’ll reference this game.
Part of the ugliness were the refs. I wonder how much $ they had riding on this game? They’re a joke.
So… team’s gotta get it’s defense (not bad tonight) and offense and rebounding together ALL IN THE SAME GAME. Then they’ll be ready for prime time. Right now, they’re not. No excuses. They’re just not ready.
JR99 - January 6, 2012
I agree with everything you say here.
But I really, really hate the expression, “No excuses.”
Just a pet peeve. Not aimed at you.
mmmmm - January 6, 2012
What're the odds of this happening again any time soon?
I don’t see what’s all the fuss about, it’s like people think we got a team full of rookies that don’t know what they’re doing.
Wintersun - January 6, 2012

LarryBird33 - January 6, 2012
Referring to NOLA game, no
Only a moron expected a win on this team’s 3rd road game in 4 days. No offense if you did, I even put a bet on the C’s.
Wintersun - January 7, 2012
NO w/o their best player and a bunch of newcomers....
Boston w/ Rondo, Allen and KG…2 future hall of famers and an all star PG versus an average team w/ their best player being Jarrett Jack…playing in his first game….
Boston had no chance?
LarryBird33 - January 7, 2012
Now that’s funny!
Blackberry33 - January 7, 2012 via mobile
3 things
1. Pacers played well. Not great. But good enough to deserve the win. They were consistent and relentless.
2. Pierce. 3 of 17. That’s not something you expect to see again for a while. And that was probably the game. I really hate to single out the Captain. But he’d be the first to say that it was a stinker. A lot of in-and-out shots.
3. Great half court D, but poor weak-side blackouts. Frustrating how often we forced them to take horrible last second shots and they still got points off put-backs. Very poor job on the defensive boards blocking out the weak side crasher.
Man, without Ray, the team shot 19 of 55. Horrible. Freakishly horrible.
We normally shoot around 50% as a team. That’s a differential of ~8 more missed shots than normal. Ouch. The Pacers didn’t shoot great either – but their style of play is to miss then crash so it wasn’t that unusually low for them. They played their game. We didn’t. We have to make shots.
Four days off – Doc has some things to work on over the next few days.
mmmmm - January 6, 2012
"blackouts" -- should be --> "blockouts"
mmmmm - January 6, 2012
Wish the game was tonight could of been a TV blackout...
so we did not have to see it …lol
fordescort - January 6, 2012
you're describing the same Celtics we've watched over the last 4 years
Never a rebounding team, but the shots weren’t falling, and that’s it. As you said, it won’t happen again for a long, long time. This is more of a wake-up call for the guys. And 2 years ago, if you can remember, Pierce and Sheed used games like this to throw the bricks outta the system.
I don’t really see a problem in this game. Shooting isn’t a problem either really. Offensive plays were good, our defense was good. We don’t rebound and the refs hate us. And we scored 30 in the 3rd, a quarter everyone seems to be saying we sucked in. But don’t tell me you expect Doc to make this team learn to rebound in 4 days, after 4 years of just letting it go?
Wintersun - January 6, 2012
We’re not an offensive rebounding team, but we grab our share of defensive boards. Our defensive and offensive rebounding percentage since 08 attests to this.
I do agree though. Today was an aberration, not an indicator of where we are as a team. No need to panic.
IsItTheShoes - January 6, 2012 via mobile
Will you marry me?
Wintersun - January 7, 2012
Hahaha. Eh, why the hell not!
I am but a poor uni student, so you’ll have to pay for the wedding I’m afraid.
IsItTheShoes - January 7, 2012 via mobile
Seriously, I can't believe there's someone else who sees there's nothing wrong going on..
Wintersun - January 7, 2012
I’ll go as far as admitting there are problems that need to be fixed, but that’s why we have a top-class coach and three hall of famers for. I trust they’ll find a way to win consistently – they’ve done so many times in the past. I do find people giving up on the season after 8 games to be rather cringeworthy.
I like this roster, I think with a little luck we’ve got a real shot at the title. There will be low points (like today) and I’m fascinated to see how the squad responds. In the meantime, I’m happy to enjoy whatever the season has to offer! Go Celtics!
IsItTheShoes - January 7, 2012 via mobile
This roster's probably better than last year's, or even the 2009/2010 roster..
Wintersun - January 7, 2012
Shockingly bad performance tonight
Celtics once again played a terrible first half but since it was the Pacers and not the Nets they weren’t able to turn it on and win the game. Definitely one of the most anemic 1st half offensive performances for the Celtics in the Big 3 Era. A shockingly pitiful effort for the Celtics tonight and there can be no rational excuse for it. The Celtics were coming off a day of rest and playing at home which makes this pathetic effort unexplainable. The Celtics scored 25 points in the entire first half! It would be hard to believe that a rested Celtics team could ever be so horrific offensively but they definitely were tonight. Feel bad for Ray as he comes off illness to have yet another great game but his rested and healthy teammates couldn’t do their part.
The Celtics made a brief run in the 3rd quarter but couldn’t complete the comeback. Every time it got close they gave up an offensive rebound, 3 pointer, Pierce missed a couple shots and the Pacers kept control. The worst part is in watching the game the Celtics looked exhausted in the 2nd half. Not a good sign watching the C’s after a day off and making one spirited run to be totally fatigued before the 4th quarter. The rebounding effort was abysmal. Tommy kept commenting as to how the Celtics had to watch the weak side rebounding as the Pacers kept getting offensive rebounds but nothing changed. Terrible watching the Pacers time after time grabbing rebounds as the Celtics offered little resistance.
Perfect play to illustrate how putrid the Celtics were tonight. Ray hit another 3 early in the 4th and cut the lead to 5. Pacers missed a shot but KG and Bradley stood there and watched the ball hit the ground allowing Foster to pick it up and score. It is inexcusable to allow a team 14 offensive rebounds. It is even worse to not even show effort in hustling for the ball on several of those rebounds.
warnerjohn - January 6, 2012
Agree
that the rebounding effort was poor tonight.
Regarding looking tired in the 2nd half, if that was the case its concerning regarding they had the day off yesterday.
But I think though fatigue maybe played a role I think the C’s lack of motivation, focus and urgency in the game possibly played a role in the loss also.
Just my 2 cents though.
fordescort - January 6, 2012
Doc said they had their best practice in years Thursday so who knows.
Blackberry33 - January 7, 2012 via mobile
What's our record against legit teams?
I wonder what our record will be against playoff teams at the end of the season.
Celticsdude - January 6, 2012
playoffs?
this team will struggle to get a 6th , 7th , or even an 8th seed , this is going to be a painfully long year ,
wal mark - January 6, 2012
If that is the case Danny will "blow up" the team.
After this effort I really wouldn’t mind if he did.
STBadly - January 6, 2012
Effort was there, shots weren't falling
That’s it.
Wintersun - January 6, 2012
I think it was Pierce who said last night there was no excuse for not getting to 50/50 balls.
clover - January 7, 2012
NO EXCUSES
Not much can be said about this game to justify the C’s performance really and no plausible explanations. Hard to fathom that after a day of rest and playing at home that the Celtics would come out and look so lethargic, offensively inept and in general like a terrible basketball team.
The Celtics have lost to every good or even mediocre team they have played this season. The only victories are against the Wizards, Pistons and Nets who are the worst teams in the NBA. Not being able to beat a decent Pacer team at home and after a day of rest definitely is a cause for concern. At some point the Celtics are going to have to win games against teams other than the dregs of the league in order to have a successful season.
warnerjohn - January 6, 2012
Yeah that's what I thought
We haven’t beaten a legit team yet.
Celticsdude - January 6, 2012
Hello Mr. Van Gundy, didn't recognize ya there
Wintersun - January 6, 2012
maybe the c's will end up 10th seed this season and wount even make it to the playoffs.
i wount be surprise at all with the current roster we have. i dnt think its a good idea to resign allen in a multi year contract this summer ray allen is done. If danny is in a rebuilding mode next summer its not a good thing to resign this two guys KG and ray allen even if it is for the 2nd unit.
reb0undwins18 - January 7, 2012
there’re always games like this. we played until we hit 13 points and then got stuck in the mud. no one has said it yet, but
i am concerned about pierce. whatever the training camp was , he missed it and if it’ s the heel, the missed camp or whathe is SLOW. he is not moving even at a snail’s pace. and tonite he stank, stunk and was stinky. the pacers were killing us on the boards and pp was killing us when he got near the ball.nazzbo - January 6, 2012
Pierce is uninspired, been so for the past 3 years
Come playoffs, the Big Three wakes up, as usual. But even though no one is rebounding, the Pierce seems to be leading the team in it. Good sign, really, when you think about it.
Wintersun - January 6, 2012
Offensive offense
These numbers are hard to believe but they are depressing facts
-The Celtics scored 30 points in the 3rd quarter which sounds good but they gave up 30 and made up no ground. In the other 3 quarters they scored 14,11 and 19 points. Hard to believe that a team with 3 Hall of Famers and an additional all star in the starting lineup were that pitiful offensively. And this wasn’t the 2nd night of a road back to back it was a home game after a day of rest.
For those who think defense matters more just look at tonight’s game. The C’s defense held the Pacers to 18% shooting in the first quarter and only 14 points but were only tied due to their anemic offense. The defense wilted in the 2nd half by giving up 54 points but the C’s had no shot to win any ways with their offense.
Plenty of blame to go around tonight – Pierce had a terrible game offensively but kept forcing up outside shots instead of driving inside. He struggled of course but those nights happen so someone other than Ray has to step up. KG was his normal timid self on offense, Marquis missed another point blank lay up. Rondo made some bad plays and missed key free throws. Hard to be an elite PG when Rondo is near the top of the NBA in turnovers and also bottom of free throw % for a starting PG.
warnerjohn - January 6, 2012
Stick a fork in them?

Based on your reactions here, it's a good thing the game wasn't shown in my neck of the woods then...
…but I’m not really surprised though. The past few seasons, we’ve always had forgettable games like that one so yeah… Good news is, we 4 days off! Phew! Perfect time to work with the 2nd unit and rest the vets! Hopefully, Pietrus does good on full contact practice. We need all the help we can get especially with the 2nd unit.

Team looked exhausted
Watching the game it was obvious how the Celtics looked tired after their brief run to start the 3rd quarter. It honestly looked as though the Celtics were on the 2nd night of a road back to back, not at home after a day off. They slowed down on defensive rotations, couldn’t get rebounds and were going through the motions offensive especially in the 4th quarter. Tommy was calling them out to protect the weak side rebounds so Doc must have seen the same thing but the Celtics couldn’t muster the energy to execute. Many things can happen on a given night but to see the veterans looking flat out exhausted after a day of rest is the most worrisome thing to come out of this pathetic effort tonight.
warnerjohn - January 6, 2012
This team should be EMBARRASSED
if they have any competitive pride whatsoever. It’s one thing to lose a game, but it’s another to PUT UP 25 POINTS IN A HALF! THIS TEAM HAS FOUR ALL STARS! 25 POINTS! AT HOME! Defense is one thing but this team HAS step up and put the ball through the basketball hoop.
They should be upset, don’t make any excuses, get it right on this four day break, get rythym, stay calm. Again it’s one thing to lose, but for this team to play like zombies and not put the ball through the hoop at home is UNEXUSABLE.
p-peazy - January 6, 2012
+1
i am not happy. its new orleans all over again.
kheldar52077 - January 6, 2012
What are you talking about?
Did you just see the game? Our guys totally outhustled the Pacers. And our defense kept them down to 19% shooting in the first quarter.
They shouldn’t be upset, there is an excuse – they had an off night. SO WHAT?
Wintersun - January 6, 2012
I'm talking about we couldn't score
I saw the entire game from the tip and I know EXACTLY what I’m talking about. We couldn’t score, our offense was stilted uneven and disjointed with no continuity at all. Nobody stepped up. Defensive hustle is important and Jermaine was there, Bradley was good in garbage time but we need to SCORE MORE POINTS THAN THE OTHER TEAM TO WIN THE GAME dude, check the rule book.
p-peazy - January 6, 2012
I saw we had a normal game
We had plenty of shots that didn’t go. We couldn’t score because we kept missing. That’s it. It happens once a year.
Is that the reason to “stick a fork in it”? Or to blow it up? Or to say we will never win a game again? I’m getting sick of the people here who change their tunes never thinking one bit about what’s going on.
Wintersun - January 6, 2012
I'm not changing my tune but I saw the game
We have the talent to win the NBA title no question, but we have to have a crisp active offense to achieve that, tonight we did not. I think we need a sharper offensive attack. And if you think 25 points in a half is a normal game for us then yeah we can’t win scoring 60 points a game no matter how much hustle we show.
p-peazy - January 7, 2012
If you doubt we can get to the playoffs, I recommend you stop watching the NBA until the playoffs
For the last 3 seasons we’ve been somewhat strolling down the season, unwilling to play, just wishing the playoffs would come sooner. And after they did, the whole team woke up. Regular season is useless, we’ll get enough games versus poor teams to get to the playoffs and enough teams versus good teams for Doc to see the flaws in the system. This game was an example of what happens when we don’t score.
So, admit you overreacted a bit and you will be forgiven, or else you’ll have to spend a day with KG.
Wintersun - January 7, 2012
However the last 3 seasons.....
Didn’t produce a title.
LarryBird33 - January 7, 2012
Dude I'm a Celtic for life
And I’m telling them we need more offense to win, our defense was there but in reality we need more OFFENSE to win, why wait until April to wake up?
If I could spend a day with KG I’d tell him keep doing what he does but SCORE the ball, the man can score on ANYONE HE PLAYS, so do it.
p-peazy - January 7, 2012
KG the man is done and needs to retire.
reb0undwins18 - January 7, 2012
I disagree
He can still do no doubt in my mind it but he has to WANT to do it, and we need him to do it.
p-peazy - January 7, 2012
yeah but KG cant get the job done. he mostly relys on his jumpshoot why cant he drive to the basket? KG is done!
reb0undwins18 - January 7, 2012
He has to want to
Let’s face it, he has the physical gifts with his length and athleticism to dominate, he absolutely can do that and has done that and it’s documented. If he wants to, he can dominate offensively, he just has to go out and play as a scorer.
p-peazy - January 7, 2012
KG is done!
reb0undwins18 - January 7, 2012
Not true
Not true, it’s all about if he wants to or not.
p-peazy - January 7, 2012
yeah like wanting to lose to a shitty team and an early exit in the playoffs.
say what u want to say KG is done and needs to retire.
reb0undwins18 - January 7, 2012
I agree
This is KG’s last season, remember the heat play off series last year? We win big (to go 2-1 down) with him dominating then then next game he is a shadow and it’s 3-1 and virtually over – he just doesn’t have the energy to bring it every night.
Derekg49 - January 7, 2012
KG is no longer an all star, just an average PF.
Celtsfansince55 - January 7, 2012
and to top it all off I see that jeff green is an unrestricted free agent now
thats just great; it means that other than the clipper pick we will have nothing to show for the perk trade. what a disaster that was
Red2 - January 6, 2012
Unreal how bad of a trade that was, and the sad thing is
it isn’t even a hindsight type thing. At the time it was a bad trade! WTF Danny?
STBadly - January 6, 2012
another sad thing is top free agents like dwight howard, derron, chris paul, and some other big names free agents dont want to come and play in boston.
reb0undwins18 - January 7, 2012
lol. So basically all that cap clearing moves and a disastrous trade
is for nothing since big name stars don’t even want to come to Boston… How’s that for a gamble..
leonitus - January 8, 2012
Rajon Rondo...
The most overrated player in basketball. Cant shoot, lackadaisical passes and cant stay bin front of anyone on defense. I used to think perkins was the most overrated, but after watching rondo so far this season Im sure its him! Man I wished we could of got rid of him too!
mdowell04 - January 6, 2012
Are you for real??
Blackberry33 - January 7, 2012 via mobile
And the only player to record a tripple double this season
Derekg49 - January 7, 2012
So far Rondo has been terrific in some games, but not very effective on others. Not sure the reason for differences. Some games he takes over and some he’s thwarted by himself or the opponent and I’m not always sure which it is. His energy level is very high in the games he shines, and my sense that energy or effort is not there in many of the games he doen’t shine. but I don’t know if it is something some opponents are able to do to frustrated him or if it is mostly Rondo.
Some of it you’d think is how out of sync the whole team seems as a result of the short preseason. Many times his teammates aren’t ready to make the most of his passes ande turnovers result, that probably aren’t his fault. But he is mishandling the ball, misjudging his best options and not pushing the pace or setting the tone for ball movement as he should.
When he is on, then you feel this guy is amazing, but when he’s not, you can question just how good he is. When healthy in the playoffs though, he has certainly been very good and often amazing.

Pathetic
Crying over refs’ bad calls as if it’s the first time ever.
Ignoring Avery’s improvement in scoring dept. and Jermaine’s incredible defensive presence tonight.
Disregarding the fact we were a much, much better team that out-hustled Indiana in every aspect of the game except the rebounds, which we never were since… not even Jeff can remember (joking).
We missed. A lot. That’s the only reason we lost. Happens.
Wintersun - January 6, 2012
Yes,
but despite all that they could have gone ahead and won the game if it wasn’t for the refs.
Every time the Cs got close or were on a run the refs put a stop to it with a blatantly terrible call. It happened several times and it was interesting that the worst calls came at a critical point of a Celtics run.
Actually I’m not sure if you’re calling players pathetic or posters here for complaining about the calls. Even though Rondo is great I really didn’t like his attitude in this game. It seemed like he made a lot of mistakes out of hubris. It reminded me of the latter part of last season.
garz - January 6, 2012
Posters, I'm getting disgusted by the fans here :)
And when do we stop saying refs make terrible calls at our critical runs? WE’RE ALWAYS MAKING CRITICAL RUNS. I got plans to assassinate all NBA refs from how much they piss me off, but just how long until we get used to it? Another 5 years?
Rondo got slowed down, Indiana just played a slower game than ours. I’ve never seen Rondo go for a layup and miss the basket by 2 feet. Sums up why we lost. The least important game of this season, really.
Wintersun - January 6, 2012
I understand not wanting to hear complaints about the refs-
-especially in a reg. season game. On the other hand it also feels wrong to let it go unmentioned when it’s as bad as it was in this game.
I do think there’s a difference if the Cs are in the middle of a run and a bad call gets made because it stops their momentum. I don’t think they’re always on a run.
Anyway interesting thing you said about Rondo. Indiana did slow the game down.
garz - January 7, 2012
Well in 5 games this season that we were down
Every attack was sort of a run-starter. Few buckets in a row – bad call. I don’t think it stops the momentum, this team is experienced enough to know not to rely on that factor.
It’s because we got the offensive skills and weapons, and are trying to get in front all the time but the team lacks chemistry still and keep turning the ball over (except tonight the issue was horrid 1st quarter shooting). I still like the fact whoever we put on the floor goes for a jumper.
Wintersun - January 7, 2012
+1 bad game no big deal! Its always the end of the world on Cb so much negativity, though I would have loved to see some rooks get some run to try a bring some offense.
Blackberry33 - January 7, 2012 via mobile
maybe doc got some problem with the rook and wount give them a chance to play at their full potential during crunch time,
fire doc and get phil jackson doc doesnt give rook a chance.
reb0undwins18 - January 7, 2012
-1 for you
Phil jackson is a shell of his former self.
Kgwillkillyou - January 7, 2012 via mobile
Two ideas
1. Doc believed we could win it and go 5-3, which would be actually a good lesson for the bench: This is what 1st team does, they win games. (If I’m not mistaken the first team played 80% of the game or so)
2. He saw we can’t win (kind of inevitable after being down by 6 in 1st quarter where Indiana shot 19%) and wanted to see how the team dig themselves up with Bass.
Wintersun - January 7, 2012
Thank you
This is one of very few sane comments on this post game write up
Kgwillkillyou - January 7, 2012 via mobile
A day's rest, 4 game win streak, complete line up.....
But back to back losses to decent or average teams…by blow outs! Wow!!!
Don’t know hot to spin this one. Very frustrating!
LarryBird33 - January 6, 2012
Give me a break jo
Gone to locker room for more padding?
vgarcia890 - January 6, 2012
steamer
Did not see game- but read that steimsma never played in first half (a half that everyone says we were slow and couldn’t score). Whats up with that? Was he hurt, or is Doc just doing the crap he does once in awhile. He’s been a spark and it sounded like we needed one. Any answers/

Army_of_One_Nation(Celtic's Nation) - January 7, 2012
Mayans were 11 months off..
Wintersun - January 7, 2012
LOL!
Army_of_One_Nation(Celtic's Nation) - January 7, 2012
i wount be surprise if we cant make it to the playoffs.
this current celtics team is over and needs an overhaul. Rebound is stil a problem in this team? come on give me a break!
reb0undwins18 - January 7, 2012
were only good at beating shitty teams.
when playing tough teams in the east the c’s choke and looks like a rookie playing basketball. Time for rebuild danny.
reb0undwins18 - January 7, 2012
Hey guys...
It’s January right? The month where the Celtics are always on a slump to the playoffs…
SparzWizard - January 7, 2012
So their minds and bodies are conditioned to suck in January
garz - January 7, 2012
and maybe its a preview of an early exit in the playoffs.
reb0undwins18 - January 7, 2012
I'm concerned
that they are only beating bad teams. If we can’t beat potential playoff teams, do we belong in the playoffs?
anotherbanner - January 7, 2012
i share your concern
they even had a hard time beating those bad teams.
kheldar52077 - January 7, 2012
Yes
Huge YES.
Beat the small teams and learn how to play against the big teams. I wish we lost all regular season games to Miami and Knicks, just so that Doc can find all the flaws in the system.
Come playoffs, we’re a team with 40 wins over bottomfeeders and all the strategies for any team we can possibly meet. Doc isn’t retarded, dude.Or a robot.
Wintersun - January 7, 2012
time for rebuild maybe banner 18th wount be this year its maybe on 2014 when we have a completely new roster and new coach.
reb0undwins18 - January 7, 2012
totall rebuild next year trade rajon and pierce.
franchise player is jst a thing in the past danny is all about business and making the team absolutely better.
reb0undwins18 - January 7, 2012
watched the replay. you know what the problem is?
they don’t play hard enough, and fundamentally sound enough, for all 48 minutes, to make up for poor jump shooting nights. Since they don’t push the ball enough to get easy buckets they can’t afford their often relaxed attitude for several minutes of every game
The fundamental problems are these: Rondo often does a poor job of guarding the perimeter. Ray actually always tries but isn’t quick enough
Almost no one blocks out. This has gone on for years. Its just nuts. KG is as bad as anyone. Steimsma inherently knows how to block out better.
No one but Rondo can get up the floor on o quick enough and no one is a reliably good finisher on the break. Maybe Bass can be
they have the above flaws which are too glaring to overcome crappy jump shooting, UNLESS they go all out for 48. But it feels like they think they don’t need to work that hard
wahz - January 7, 2012
they also
don’t rebound well. their lockdown defense is useless if they can’t take the defensive rebound. I checked the yearly stats KG and Perk accounts for 19 rebs per game while KG and JO combine for only 11 rebs per game. Bench scoring is also a factor hopefully Pietrus will remedy this when he plays.
kheldar52077 - January 7, 2012
What's Pietrus gonna do for us?
Wintersun - January 7, 2012
JO was good, Ray scored a bunch
Everyone else should probably have a stiff drink and forget that they’re capable of being that terrible.
Ben Buchanan - January 7, 2012
JO was incredible, fighting with Hansbrough, Foster and West by himself
Even KG was absent tonight and we don’t see that very often, but JO defensively looked as good as ever.
I mean… that play where he blocks a shot and picks up a charge – I don’t see that as his amazingly great night, I see it as the real Jermaine O’Neal here to stay and play the starting C.
Wintersun - January 7, 2012
4 Day Rest.
So no excuse to lose to the defending champs Dallas Mavericks, especially if they are the Dallas Mavericks of 2011-2012! Unless of course, the referee is Joe Crawford, then maybe.
SparzWizard - January 7, 2012
Can't say they'd have won this one if only they'd had Pierce.
Unfortunately it’s looking more and more like the only window open still for the Big Three leads out to a ledge that they may find themselves trying to talk more and more fans back from as the season goes on.
clover - January 7, 2012
our offense sucks and its more than not hitting shots
doc needs to get his team to play more uptempo. that starts with rondo and rebounding- 2 things are we do not do consistently every night. it’s well documented that as rondo goes so goes the team. we can’t walk the ball up the court and think that we can beat a team in the half court. I posted before this game that we would lose the game unless we got out in transition. whatever the key is to getting rondo to play at a faster tempo doc needs to find it. the rebounding is more problematic because we have soft ,old big men and wilcox sure doesn’t seem to be the answer.
Red2 - January 7, 2012
You're some what right
Indiana Paced (pun alert) the game down, the game was amazingly slow last night that Rondo often ran with third of his max speed to the bucket and… I’ve never seen him miss a lay up by 2 feet. Twice.
Wintersun - January 7, 2012
The starters' tempo is a self-regulating mechanism:
The harder Rondo plays, the better he plays, the longer Doc keeps him in—until he’s exhausted and runs out of gas at the end of the game.
So Rondo holds some in reserve, Doc plays him fewer minutes and complains about his not pushing it.
And then the harder Rondo plays…

I stopped
watching at 33 – 25 halftime. it was so ugly i could not sleep.
