Winning Ugly Is Still Winning

What happens when a whole game is (pretty much) played like it is garbage time? Well, it is sloppy, there's a few runs by both teams, the better team pulls ahead, and then you see lots of reserves. But a win is a win is a win, so now we're above .500 and on a 4 game winning streak. So there's that. Next!

Other notes:

  • Paul Pierce looks to be feeling just fine - though I'm sure he's still sore.
  • Brandon Bass continues to endear himself to fans and the coaching staff. Love this guy.
  • Avery Bradley actually had one of his best nights as a pro tonight.
  • "Only" one block for Greg Stiemsma tonight.
  • JaJuan Johnson made an appearance - though only after we were up 20 with just a few minutes to go. He posted goose eggs across the board.
  • Meanwhile, MarShon Brooks looks like a pro out there, leading his (bad) team with 17 points. Not sure how different things would have been if we had just picked him and not traded him, but it is a data point of reference.

for the first time in his career

Avery Bradley looked like an NBA player

He really played some fantastic defense.

I can’t think of a better on ball defender (no, I don’t have a wild fever).

No argument here, he can stay in front of his guy (something that even Rondo has problems with)

And on a couple possessions Bradley actually used his speed to attack the basket. Hopefully he will get some confidence in himself now.

More importantly, we won 4 in a row for the first time in a few years

(not counting the playoffs)

Didn't we win 15 in a row last year?
And after the amazing start we choked and lost every 3rd game

Maybe a bit of an exaggeration, but still, no one expected this from us. :)

Bradley

Bradley had a nice game. He got enough PT to get into the flow defensively and that seemed to open up his offense a little bit. I love his defensive pressure.

Marquis is seriously slumping

Can’t hit a bunny to save his life. What the hell is going on with that guy?

Love Avery. Guy’s got a one-in-a-million talent. Possibly the fastest hands in the NBA. Great to watch the kid do well.

KG, well… after that rookie mistake of driving to the paint then standing there for the 3-count, he got it together for a strong game. Making progress, all in all, making progress.

2nd half was much less ugly than the 1st.

Yeah, Marquis is doing everything else right - but can't shoot worth crap right now.

He’s playing good defense and on offense he’s doing his patented trick of sneaking/sliding/popping up right under the rim when no one expects it. But he’s missing gimme shots from one foot that just bounce in and out and every which but down through the damn net!

I gotta think that’s a ‘touch’ thing from not having played at NBA speed since his injury. He seems to be releasing a lot of his layups with a little too much ‘oomph’.

+1

2pts 2 rebounds should have 12 points 1 rebound

Marquis is trying but has been painful to watch

Marquis Daniels has transformed himself into an offensive nightmare. He can get open inside but can’t make shots outside of 3 feet. Just tonight he missed at least 5 mostly uncontested shots from 3 feet or closer. It’s rare to see an NBA player miss so many shots in the lane including point blank layups but Marquis has made it an art form.

Doc had a comment in the post game about it

and blamed it on simply not having played at NBA game speed since last year at the injury.

Daniels is a ‘touch’ shooter, using flips and layups. And if you are going too fast/slow on those, you are going to miss.

Hopefully he’ll get the feel for it back soon.

He'll be back when we need him

Heat/Knicks games, as a reminder.

+1 damn right

For those who doubted Bradley…..hahaha

icing on the cake

earlier today, Stan Van Gundy on Glen Davis: “I don’t know. He’s not playing well. I’m not sure his mind’s on the right things right now.”

I <3 Bass

yup, saw that on twitter

just rolling my eyes

Indeed...

the Bass trade for Baby is looking really great at the moment and when all is said and done it could just be a steal on Ainges part which could mimic some of the various great trade steals Red Auerbach arranged.

Absolutely. Great trade.
remember when Davis said that it was hard playing in KG's shadow?

now he’s playing in Ryan Anderson’s shadow.

LOL!...

Brutal indeed!…

LOL!

that was fun!

I drafted Bass in fantasy

using my last pick. Not regretting that whatosever

Hahahha

Same here, man. : ) I don’t think I used my last pick on him, but I’m glad I picked him, all the same.

Though its not very exciting beating bad ball club like the Nets..

The C’s once again did what they had to do again and got the win tonight.

Bass’s play has just been phenomenal as he continues to look impressive.
It was also nice to see Bradley have a solid game.

Nice to see the game turn to a blow out so we could see the vets get rest and the younger players could see some court time.

When Moore, Bradley Stiemsma, JJ and Bass (a bit earlier) were all out on the court in the latter part of the game, I just could not help to think if we were getting a glimpse of what the C’s lineup could possibly look like in the future?

I sure hope not...
I actually think

starting to rebuild the C’s with a Moore, Bradley Stiemsma, JJ and Bass core is a good start.

If those players (who I think have talent and potential) can develop into solid players, along with next years Clipper pick , then if you throw in Rondo (who is still young) and a couple of high tier all star player type acquisitions with the money freed up when the big 3 retire to the mix,
I think the C’s have a good chance to rebuild rather quickly and possibly have a competitive club again sooner rather then later.

Just my 2 cents though.

none of those five players has any court vision

Stiemsma is probably the best passer out of the five, and the least likely to be retained. Otherwise I agree, those are all nice looking 2-way players with good tools.

Ray?

Missed the broadcast – why’d Ray sit tonight?

flu
ahh gotcha - thanks Jeff!
saw a stat today that the Pats didn't beat a team with a winning record all year

that’s true with the Celtics so far too I think

well, you can only play the games on your schedule – the tests will come soon enough

Yea...

Though its a good thing to beat the bad teams you play against, since you are suppose to beat those teams, the real test for the C’s will be when they play some of the more elite teams again.

We should get a better barometer at that time of how good the C’s can be this year.

That stat on the Pats is a bit deceptive. They beat a LOT of .500 teams.

Jets (8-6 but for the two losses to the Pats), Chargers, Raiders, Denver, Cowboys, Eagles — all had winning records against the rest of the league.

ya got to love this team

lots of guys are exceeding the expectations and adding new dimensions: bradley, steimsma, and we knew bass was good but damn.

Avery

Is a honey badger

That's Awesome

I nominate this for his nickname

Braond Bass > David West
If Avery could only bottle tonight's game

Avery Bradley is a great defender but his offense has to improve for him to be counted on in meaningful games. He had a great second half as he converted a nice drive and finally made a couple open jumpers which is great. He really struggles when trying to run the offense and can’t even make post entry passes or dribble without fumbling the ball away. If he can just become adequate on offense then his hustle and defensive prowess could generate a vital role for him on the Celtics.

+1

I think Averys offense will come around with more playing time and if he can get more touches on offense and he stops being timid to shoot the ball.
Avery has shown in college and in the D league he can score, so it should be the same in the NBA since its like riding a bike and you can not forget how to do so.

I agree fully he needs to work on his ball handling and passing skills if he wants to be a solid all around guard.
I think that aspect of his game should come along with pure playing time which should allow him to develop those skills to a better degree then they are currently.

Nice to see Bradley shooting with some confidence

He’s actually got a pretty nice stroke when he shoots in rhythm. Maybe he’s finally gotten a lot of the jitters out of his system. Also he should definitely drive to the basket more since he’s got Rondo-esque speed. Moore looked good in the last couple minutes too. Now if JJJ can stop being so tentative, the young core could be well on its way.

Also it was good to see Wilcox get that block. He didn’t put up much in the stat line, but his work inside caused a few rebounds to land in the hands of Bass. As exciting as Stiemsma can be, Wilcox is probably just as important to this year’s squad.

Good point about Wilcox

I saw him very specifically work to block out for Bass on several plays. I liked seeing that kind of selfless play.

He can do a lot more than we've seen thus far...

his eventual emergence could be a real key for this team’s chances in the playoffs

Keyon Dooling

Keyon Dooling was ineffective in starting for Ray Allen and was mostly hesistant even when having open shots. Dooling also couldn’t stop Brooks in the first half and forced Doc to make a change after halftime.

Before the game an interview was shown talking about the great chemistry Rondo and Dooling have together but it didn’t really show tonight.

well, to be fair,

the whole team sans PP played lazily and sloppily in the first half. but i do see your point tho, dooling does tend to hesitate on A LOT of open shots and instead runs time off the clock

pierce misses camp and plays this well

go captain

Is JJJ a mistake for a #1 pick

or is it still too early ?

WAAAAAAYYYY too early!
Ok, it just seems that Moore seems so much more polished

vs his Purdue brethren

I am SO not worried about JaJuan

He is going to be just fine.

moore played in europe

when locked out happen. that might have help up his confidence and experience.

JJ..

was one of the better bigs available this year in the draft and since the C’s need bigs especially as they seek to rebuild I do not think he was a mistake in anyway.

I think to judge JJ on inconsistent, short bursts of playing time when its tough to get into the flow and groove of a game is misleading.

JJ will be fine when he starts to get regular minutes and will be very much needed down the line as the C’s seek to rebuild.

Agreed, you would think JJJ would have rec'd more minutes

tonite in the 4th qtr; any further rumors on Cousins or maybe Jason Thompson ? Still believe the C’s need more power at center to have at least an edge there vs mia/Chi

Id love to see...

JJ get more minutes as a big fan of his.
But I think with KG and the great play of Bass ahead of him it will be real tough to find him minutes this year at the 4 position.

I hope though during blow outs and back to back games if KG sits and Bass starts Doc will go to JJ as the back up 4 to allow him to get at least some serious playing minutes this year.

I was worried about the center position early in the season also, but that was before we learned that Steimsma appears to be a legit center with good potential to help the C’s this year and long term.

I think if J.O. is healthy ( a big maybe) he along with Steimsma and Wilocox would be decent 3 man center rotation.
Though I do not prefer it personally you can also spot KG at center also against some teams to add more depth to the position.

But with that said I would not mind another center to be added to the roster for insurance (especially if JO breaks down) .
A short term and cheap costing center like Joel Pryzibilla, who was one of a few centers I had on wish list for the C’s this past summer, would I think be a great fit with the C’s to add more depth and insurance at the center position.

I think as he would be able to clog and defend the paint and get some rebounds which is really all the C’s need from a center with this current core.
The C’s are interested possibly in signing Joel and have talked to him recently, but he will make decision if he will come out of retirement and sign with a team some time later this season.
I hope if he does pull a PG Brown and plays again it will be for the C’s .

The three-headed center tandem you discuss

is decent, assuming JO does not go down, I was just wishing for a long-shot signing of a talent like Cousins which would give the C’s a real edge at center vs Mia/Chi.
If this is it for the Big 3, this addition could do it.

Some D-League time may do him some good
JJ was setting good screens and rolling very nicely to the basket

his screens created points for Moore and Bradley in the last few minutes of the game. Moore and Bradley were not interested in making cutting passes or passing into the post last night, so Johnson’s only touches were when he came out to the top of the key to set up.

I would have liked to see him contend for a rebound or two, but I wouldn’t make anything out of his lack of offense last night. The benchies didn’t even try to get it inside last night. Let’s see what happens when he gets some minutes with Rondo on the floor.

he looks really small to me though

i have a hard time believing he’s 6’10". Did anyone else think this too?

He’s also renowned for his athleticism and, aside from some nice quick cuts to the basket, we haven’t gotten a chance to see it expressed. The bench guys pushed the ball, but they didn’t really run any fast break offense.

Here are his actual Combine measurements:

http://ww.draftexpress.com/profile/JaJuan-Johnson-5307/

Those are ‘real’ measurements, not stuff an agent or a team puts out.

Note the standing reach and the vertical leap numbers!

He’s apparently put on a few pounds since the Combine and hopefully he’ll continue to do so. But he’s not going to become ‘less tall’ until osteoporosis sets in …

(You may find it useful to search DraftExpress for the Combine measurements of other players for comparisons.)

What happen to JO? Was he resting? Cuz I didn't see him play in the second half.
I assume and really hope he was just resting...

and Doc probably wanted to give his hamstring some extra rest.

But with JO past health history, who knows as any time he sits it is a concern maybe he is injured.

I think Doc just decided to rest him. His hamstring may still be a little tight.

No need to risk it on a night like tonight.

He actually played very well defensively in the first half.

Rondo

Rondo was was solid tonight in running the 2nd half offense and made a couple great steals. It was strange to see him again show little aggression in driving to the basket even with Gaines playing him and the Nets having zero inside presence.

More concerning is seeing his early season free throw success dwindling with each passing game. It was only 3 attempts tonight but he just looked to have no confidence at the line once again. Rondo needs to be at least a 70% free throw shooter to be effective late in games and prevent teams from fouling him.

JO once again ineffective

After finally playing one great game he got tons of praise but couldn’t follow it up tonight.

He grabbed a few rebounds but looked slow on defense. Shelden Williams outplayed him in the first half. He did nothing on offense and once again got in early foul trouble. Started the second half and picked up another quick foul and that was about it. All in all another lackluster effort for JO…

Consistent play is going to be the big test...

for J.O and also this year considering there ages and past medical history.

Sure they will put together great nights here and there , but the big question is will they be able to do so more often then not over the course of the season.

With both players playing major roles on the team the C’s will need them to show up and produce in as many games as possible this year if they want to be competitive, especially come playoff time.

Time will tell if there age or any injuries will allow them to do so, but for the C’s sake lets all hope they can.

Meant to say..

“also KG”

In my above 1st paragraph.

The whole team was outplayed in the first half

Other than Pierce of course, who looked silky smooth in the early going. Because of that I’m willing to give JO a pass for looking kind of blah.

Also I really don’t expect that much from him nowadays. His body has been broken so many times that he just isn’t close to the player he once was, especially coming off a shortened preseason and with a tender hammy. Really he’d be better off as a backup, but it’s also fine if he’s in a 3-way rotation with Wilcox and Stiemsma. As centers go, he’s very mediocre. But with what they’ve got at the other 4 positions, that’s really all the C’s need.

5 rebounds and 2 blocks in 18 minutes is being lackluster?

That’s a 10rb, 4bs per 36m pace.

His shot wasn’t falling. ’Happens.

And wasn’t JO usually on Okur? I think we usually had KG or Bass on Williams.

Yes JO was ineffective

JO had a couple nice blocks and 5 rebounds while also picking up quick fouls.

I guess you weren’t able to watch the game – JO guarded Shelden Williams almost exclusively when both were on the court. And Shelden did outrebound, outscore and generally outplay JO in the first half. Again JO picked up a quick foul in the 2nd half and that was it.

KG guarded Okur even though he was listed as a center. As you know Okur is more perimeter oriented so Doc had KG on him which was smart. No way JO could chase Okur around the perimeter and defend the 3 point line…

I listened to most of the first half on the radio while driving home.

I caught the tale end of the 2nd and all of the second half on TV.

Watching the replay, yes, the Nets had Shelden down low so JO had him most of the time.

I’m not sure I’d characterize Shelden’s performance as ‘generally outplay JO’. He had his good moments. But mostly, meh.

While on the court with O’Neal, Shelden:

Lost the tip to JO.
Missed a shot.
Kicked a ball.
Fell down and accidentally ‘stole’ a Rondo pass.
Grabbed a rebound.
Stole a bad pass by Rondo.
Was blocked on a layup attempt by JO which lead to a fast break layup by Pierce.

When JO was called for the cheap blocking foul for his second, he left the game with 1:59 left in the first for Stiemsma. At that point, Shelden finally scored his first points, a layup.

So Williams had 1 rebound and zero points on 0-2 shooting in his first 10 minutes against JO.

O’Neal came back in with 7:31 remaining in the 2nd period after which Shelden:
Grabbed a defensive rebound off a missed Pierce free throw.
Grabbed a defensive rebound off a missed Pierce 3PT shot.
Grabbed an offensive rebound off a missed Gaines jump shot.
Grabbed an offensive rebound off a missed Brooks layup.
Missed a layup.
Made an uncontested fast break dunk off a James steal off Bradley.
Made a jump shot off fast break pass by Gaines off a rebound of a Rondo miss.
Grabbed an offensive rebound of a James miss. Was fouled by JO.
JO left at 1:03.
Made 2 free throws.

So in their second 6:28, Sheldon grabbed 5 rebounds, of which 2 were not really contested, scored 6 points on 2 of 3 shooting. Two of those shots had nothing to do with JO’s defense. Only the free throws were really ‘against’ JO.

To start the second half, Shelden:
Grabbed a defensive rebound of a Dooling jumper.
JO then left at the 10:55 mark after getting called for a blocking foul on Brooks and was not called upon the rest of the game as the Cs put the game away.

So when matched up against JO, I count 4 contested rebounds, a foul and 2 free throws to Shelden’s credit off JO in those 18 minutes. Oh, and getting blocked.

JO for his part grabbed 5 contested rebounds, also scored 2 points, blocked 2 shots (and had another block declared defensive goal tending) during that time. He also committed a bad pass turnover (outlet pass to Pierce that Pierce was not expecting) and was called for 4 PFs.

Yes, JO played pretty well defensively

He just missed 3 easy shots – but almost everyone on this board pays more attention to offense than defense and typically equate a players production to the player who was “matched up” on them by position more than play-by-play.

This is why coaches break down film – you get only a small part of the “game” when you watch it once, in real-time.

Not sure what the point of play by play for those who actually watched the entire game but OK it’s an exciting read.

Yes I actually watched the game – I stated twice that JO committed an early foul in the 2nd half and that was it for him so there was not much of a matchup in the 2nd half. Shelden did most of his relative damage in the 1st half any ways.

Never said that all of Sheldens rebounds or points were against JO, just that he was the primary defender covering him while both were in the game which is correct as you agreed. And Shelden was more productive in the first half as he had more points and rebounds. Earlier you stated that KG or Bass were the primary defenders on JO which after watching the game it was obvious that wasn’t the case when JO was on the court. In fact KG rarely guarded Shelden at all unless it was on a swtich when JO was in the game as KG was busy shutting down Okur.

in the end neither player was great but Shelden definitely outplayed JO when both were on the court and in total for the 1st half. Better shooting %, more points, more rebounds, less fouls – the only stat JO had better was 2 blocks. JO has shown a penchant for committing early fouls and taking himself out of the game which shouldn’t happen so often with a seasoned veteran. The sum of their performances definitely qualifies as Shelden playing better. Hopefully JO gets better as the season progresses as his performance has not been anywhere near consistent so far, especially on the offensive end. Not being able to outplay a scrub such as Shelden Williams is another clear piece of evidence supporting that fact…

No, i 'asked rhetorically' based of what I heard on the radio

as I could not see the first half of the game until I saw the replay after the game ended.

The point of the play by play is that it factually delineates what actually happened. Not what we subjectively argue we think might have happened.

The first 10 minutes they were matched up, Shelden did nothing. That’s over half the time they were matched up. Shelden had a brief 3-4 minute span in the 2nd period where he looked good. That’s pretty much it. And part of his ‘success’ was just being the fortunate recipient of a feed from a steal made by someone else, another similar one on bad pass turnover and getting rebound freebie on a missed free throw. None of that had anything to do with ‘outplaying’ O’Neal. He didn’t do anything the rest of the time but stand around.

Try watching the game in replay and in detail by focusing specifically on their matchup and no, Shelden did not ‘definitely outplay’ JO.

At least two of the fouls called on JO were very questionable. Being a ‘seasoned veteran’ doesn’t help, unfortunately when you get rep with refs.

Personally I’m a fan of big men using their fouls when you have depth at the 5 and right now, we have all our bigs healthy and playing competently. IMHO, the center in our scheme should try to block everything that comes into the paint and if they foul they should foul hard. The role of the 5 in the Celtics’ team defense is to be the sink towards which our perimeter defense guides all attackers who you can’t stop on the perimeter. When timed perfect, he draws a charge or forces a pass out or blocks/deviates a shot. When the help timing isn’t right, he’s going to get called for blocking fouls. This is fine. Cost of doing business. Make them shoot free throws if you have to but don’t give up easy layups. This is just part of an overall defensive scheme that is proven to work and continues to work.

If you recall, Perk (& Sheed & Shaq, etc., etc.) used to also get called for these very same fouls. Perk, unfortunately also would get in deeper trouble because he had a bad habit of getting called also for offensive fouls (moving screens) which also counted as turnovers. One of the big killers in that infamous Game 7 was that, without Perk available, we had 6 less fouls to give in our big man rotation.

Jo should come off the bench

He just seems to do better when playing no more than 15 min

Thanks warnerjohn for the info.
Jeeze, Warner - you'd think we lost this game.

Can we just enjoy pounding a team we were supposed to pound?

I'm just glad Warner is

not my father. I could never measure up :-)
Warner your posts are very thoughtful but a bit harsh and unvarnished and pessimistic. But thats ok. Others like mmmm are more positive. Both of you make sense but come from opposite perspectives. So it’s a good balance. I think we are extremely lucky to be able to have a team with 3 possibly 4 hall of famers and some good young supporters. I feel good about our chances this year. I look forward to Peitris playing. So great having Pierce back.

Ha good points Dave. I admit to being more pessimistic when viewing the team and having high expectations. Like you said a team that has at least 3 hall of famers on the court many nights should have high expectations! Others are overly positive and refuse to criticize the team when warranted. Everyone has different views which makes watching sports and talking about the team fun. Wouldn’t be too entertaining if everyone had the same opinions.

Not the biggest fan of some of Danny Ainge’s moves but it’s hard to argue with the pickup of Brandon Bass. He may be ‘no pass Bass’ but with his shooting stroke who can blame him. Add to that an aggression when driving to the basket and desire to rebound and he is looking like the steal of the offseason…

NOTHING BUT NET(S)

Ain’t no sunshine when he’s gone—that’s Ray,
Let’s hope his flu very quickly goes away.
Missing Nets: Lopez, DWilliams, Kris
Just means the latter the crowd couldn’t diss.

First half was iffy, good defense, I guess,
More importantly the offense was a mess.
Q3 turned around, started with Dooling for three,
Bass was The Man, good job by Bradley.

Pierce got it going, KG, too, he’s tough,
Felt bad for Marquis, couldn’t score, it was rough.
Everyone got to play, especially to end Q4,
Wilcox, Pavlovic, even Johnson and Moore!

As we concentrate on Cs Ball, with talents meldin’
You know who started for the Nets? Williams—Shelden!
Good job, Cs, great rotations, Doc,
Who is finding some rhythm for his fledgling flock!

lovemyceltics.blogspot.com

I agree with the article, Jeff!

Sloppy indeed! hahah! It’s always been a problem starting the 1st half in a sloppy manner… Do you think that’s the “age factor”? Like a slow burning diesel engine?

Finally, Bradley strutting his stuff! Props to him! Bass is… phew! I have no idea what went inside the Magic’s head trading him for Baby but he was definitely a steal!

As much as this was just the Nets… and without 3 starters at that… it was a good game to get everyone else closer to being glued together. Especially the 2nd team guys like Wilcox, Bradley, Steamer, Dooling. More importantly, getting the Captain closer to his true form.

Lastly, c’mon Quis & Sasha… just… do it!

Next up… Pacers! I remember Allen “calling out” D.West for choosing money over a winning team… Let’s get it on! ;)

Had our fun.....now

very possibly a five game losing streak. Looked like garbage tonite struggling at home to beat one of the worst teams in the league without their three best players.
To top it off, our first round draft pick we traded away looks great, while our trash can’t even get in the game til utter garbage time. Either they are horrible, or Doc’s horrible…pick!
Can’t stop watching…habit after 54 years, but you’ve got to be delusional to think this team is going anywhere come playoff time. Sigh………

the c’s pulled a patriot game tonite—slow, slow start and then turn on the juice. 1st half was brutal to watch. if you ask jo what’s wrong he will tell you the refs are taking him out of his game. he has a point but he has to just play thru it. avery looked very awkward on o in half 1, but got much smoother with playing time. doc has to be patient with his newbies, and so do we. dooling is better than what some on this board think and is a stabilizing force. pp and kg got the stats tonite but both were lazy in spots that set up the sleepwalk parts of the game.

We could beat this team in our sleep

And I’m saying that because that’s what we just did. Other than a few flashes, we looked unfocused and our energy was nonexistent. It may have to do with the guys pacing themselves properly, but it was a sloppy game. Can’t complain too much though because we still blew them out.

I hope to see them bring more energy against Indiana.

good just want to see stemroller MORE!!!

come the guy has shown he has more than what it takes to play 20min + on 10 min or so……….

not 10min or so (my bad)
slow down guys

im glad he had a decent game but dats what it is a game. hes hasn’t done much and now hes the next coming. i need to see more than 1 game before i give anyone of them playing time. one game is not gonna change my mind

next 5 games

won’t be easy. they should keep their consistency.

I ain't happy bec. we should've won by 40! In other news , Heat just destroyed the Pacers!

What can we expect on Friday vs Indiana?

Who cares about those two teams...

Celtics gonna do work on Friday and dispose David West and the Pacers for betraying them at the spot!

Anyone else think its too early to say

Bass will win 6 man of the year if he keeps these numbers up

Was thinking the same thing

Yeah sure, it’s early. If Bass continues to play and put up numbers the way he is, he will be a front runner for NBA 6th man.

Agree, but keep in mind this time last year Big Baby was being talked as a potential 6th man of the year. But Bass has been superb so far. Once he gets the knack of the team defence he’ll be doubly effective.

Unfortunately for BBD, charges don't count for stats.. Bass is averaging significant no.s in pts and rebs, way more than BBD did..
when's the soonest that Pietrus can play?

.

My guess is after that 4-day break... It would give him a few days to practice with the team & test his knee while he's at it.

…He did say last week that he might be good to go in 2 weeks, so yeah.

Does anyone remember the last time we won 4 in a row?
Last April. 5 straight against the Knicks (4 of those in the playoffs).

Before that, we won 5 straight from Feb 26 – Mar 6 against the Clippers, Jazz, Suns, Warriors and Bucks.

Our longest winning streak last year was 14 games from Nov 22 – Dec 22.

Yip - I thought we were all set for number 18 during that streak
Healthy Shaq + Big 4 ==> Mucho Awesome.

Too bad it couldn’t last!

:-(

I erased the whole last season from my memory

so promising at start, so painful to be laughed at by everyone when Heat dumped us into trash. :|

Just can't get too interested in these games that the Celts should win against horrendous teams

Glad they are winning them, but I believe the combined win total of the three teams they have beaten in the last four games is 2. These 3 teams, along with Toronto, are clearly 4 of the worst teams in the NBA. Now the Celts get to play some real teams again. Hopefully they will keep on winning. Last night’s game, except for a few individual performances, was just wretched to watch.
